VST:CATCH IN DIG POSITION Drills

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON* 2 balls, players in a circle.  2 players side by side start with a ball each (players A and B). Player A throws the ball up in the air, player B passes their ball to player A.  Player A quickly passes the ball received from player B across to the next player on their other side and catches the ball they have thrown in the air.  This is repeated all the way around the circle.      

The feeder passes the ball to the working player (blue 1). The passes should be varied (short, wide and high). Blue 1 must move to the ball as early as possible and pass it back to the feeder before returning to their starting postion - ready to go again!

1 feeder and 1 worker 1 ball. Feeder throws the wide left right to the worker who has to run out to either side catching the ball and returning it with the outside arm only.

One player always passes the ball straight and the other always passes the ball diagonally. Both players are catching and throwing the ball with one hand and at shoulder height.

1 Ball, 2 players face each other. Both players pass the ball straight alternating between left and right hand (with hand at shoulder height) Progression 2 Balls, 2 Players face each other. Both players pass the balls straight and at the same time.

Stand about 2 metres apart. In pairs with one ball between two. 1 ball, 2 players face each other. Both players pass the ball to their partners right hand then change to the left. Progressions Change the height of the ball (e.g from shoulder to waist) Add movement - forwards/backwards/sideways. Move as a pair. Add 2 balls

1 worker 1 feeder 1 ball 4 spots Worker runs out one of the spots to run back to the middle to receive the ball pass it back to the feeder and run out to the next spot (either in clock or anti clock wise direction).

Players need to pair up and concentrate for this drill and will need two balls. One player bounce passes every pass while the other plays a chest pass.

Similar to first practice, but now tossing the ball further so that the player moves to catch the ball with one hand.

2+ players, one ball per player, 1/3 space. 1. Players set up facing eachother about 1 metre apart with a ball each. 2. Sidestepping the third, players alternate each ball using one handed passes.  3. Variation: One partner is 'bumping' the ball off to the working partner with their own ball using high passes. 4. Variation: One partner is bumping the ball side to side with their own ball. Finishw with some over head bumps. 5. Variation: Partners side step down the court with one partner as the 'bumper'. 

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON* Pass and Drive Set up: 1 ball, shooting third, 4 lines of players The ball starts with player on middle of transverse line (A). Player from the line midway down sideline (B), drives in front of A to receive a pass. Player B passes from middle of the third/top of the circle on a diagonal out to player standing at the corner of transverse and sideline intersection (C).  Player B joins line player C is from. Player C delivers ball to a player (D) who has driven from baseline corner to the edge of the circle. At the same time player D drove out, another player (E) from the same line drives into the circle.  Player D delivers ball to player E in the circle. Players D and E act as WA/C and GS/GA feeding in and out of circle. Player E may choose to put up a shot.  Player E delivers ball back to starting point A. 

Pass and Get Set up: 5+ players, 1 ball, 1/3 space Two lines of players (one behind each other) face a stationary feeder. Front two players from each line drive out on a diagonal towards sideline.  Feeder delivers ball to one of the drivers. The player who did not receive the ball is to drive towards the player with the ball and receive a pass. The player who received the first pass the drives towards the stationary feeder to get an ‘intercept’.  The player who intercepted now becomes the stationary feeder for the next two players who drive out. Both of the other players involved go to the back on the line.

In pairs, standing about 2 metres apart, players pass to one another using a variety of passes: Chest, shoulder, bounce pass, high pass (to extended arm but feet still in contact with floor).

In pairs standing two meters apart. The receiver stands with their back to the feeder on the balls of their feet, ready to quickly turn. The receiver makes a sharp 180 degree turn and drives to either the left or right hand cone. The feeding player must fire a fast ball to the receiver who returns it before then turning away again.

Two Players, One ball. The receiver Stands on the center cone, facing AWAY from the feeder. The feeder, standing three meters away from their partner is standing in a forward stance, ready to pass the ball. The feeder will give a command, directing the receiver the either stay, run left or run right. Depending on the command, the receiver must make a quick and decisive 180 degree turn to face their partner before then driving to receive and return the pass from where they have been directed to by their partner. This drill will ensure your players drive onto the ball and don't dawdle.

Player work in pairs and stand 1m apart. Players pass back and forth while facing one another as they move along the length of the court and back.

- Have your team get into 4s with at least 2 different colour cones - One player will be the worker (GREEN)  - set up a cone either side of the worker (approximately 2m away) - One player will stand directly opposite the worker (ORANGE) and will pass the ball back and forth with the worker (GREEN) - The other two players (BLUE) will have at least 2 different colour cones each and will stand either side of the static player - In turn each BLUE player will hold up a coloured cone, the worker will have to call out each colour - If it is correct each player will take a step outwards, put the cones back behind their back and pick another cone - Repeat until BLUE player have reached the outer cone (Red)

Players work in pairs (1 feeder and 1 worker). The worker turns her back on the feeder. When the worker turns around (on the feeder's command) the Feeder throws the ball close to the worker for her to react and catch or collect the ball after one bounce. After catching the ball the worker returns the ball to the worker. Drill continues in this way.

The worker stands, knees bent slightly and both hands on ears. The feeder holds the ball still in front of the worker's face and drops it - the worker has to catch it before it hits the floor.

4 Players, 2 balls. Blue player 1 without a ball receives a ball from White player 3,and passes it on to White player 1 (who did not start with a ball), receives from white 2 and gives to white 3 etc.
