Box Drill

A min. of 8 players standing in four corners of 1/3 of the court, one player with a ball. Player 1 passes the ball into the space ahead of player 2 who runs on to receive the ball and passes it into the space ahead of player 3 etc. Players move on to next group after the pass. Progressions:Change direction. Second ball starts opposite the first. Shrink and stretch the square.

Complete The Square - 3s

Players 1, 2 and 3 stand on 3 corners of the square. Player 1 has a ball and throws it to the 4th corner for player 3 to receive it. She lands, turns and feeds to player B who is moving into the free corner.

Passing

Complete the square

Working in a square in groups of 3 (with one corner left empty). Player 2 sprints to the spare corner as player 1 starts to play the pass. Upon receiving the ball blue 2 turns to throw the ball to the now empty corner which blue 3 sprints towards, ready to receive the pass.

Movement

Diagonal Passes

4 players line up, each standing on a corner of the square with one player stood between two cones with the ball. The drill starts when the player with the ball passes the ball diagonally, anti-clockwise, with a chest/ shoulder pass to the next player who is running forward to receive the pass. After they have passed the ball the players should stand on the next cone. This player then passes diagonally to the next player before running to the next cone.

Interception - group activity

Red 2 has the ball and red 1 starts in the opposite corner Blue 1 runs forward and Red 2 passes a diagonal pass to Blue 1 Red 1 moves on a diagonal to intercept the pass Following the interception red 1 feeds a straight pass onto Blue 2 Red 2 then runs straight to receive a diagonal pass from Blue 2 and Blue 1 moves across to intercept this pass.

Set out grids 5 by 5 m. For the practice 1 player on each corner with 1 ball between 4. Player passes ball clock wise and after pass moves to touch the cone in the middle of the square and back out again.

Grids 5 by 5 m. Player on each corner. 1 ball between 4. Players pass the ball clock wise and after each pass the player follows the pass to touch the cone on the outside and then runs back to their own cone.

Grids 5 by 5 m. Player on each corner. 1 ball between 4. Players pass the ball clock wise and after each pass the player follws the passs to touch the cone of the player they passed to and then runs back to their own cone.

Teams of 3 or 4 players. Each team numbers themselves 1-2-3-4 and has one ball. The ball should be passed around the team in numerical order whilst moving around the set area. After each pass the player has to run around one of the cones on the corner. Restriction: The player receiving the pass is not allowed to run round the same cone as the passer and the same player is not allowed to run around the same cone consecutively.

Split your group into 8s (2 balls are needed for this pass and move exercise). The balls start on opposite corners and are passed clockwise. Each worker, after having passed the ball, swaps places with the player across the square that passed the ball at the same time.

Minimum of 8 players with 2 balls (balls start on diagonally opposite corners). Players 1 and 3 run to their left towards the player that is going to feed the ball to them. Before reaching the player who is going to feed them the ball the receiving player should make a sharp dash towards the centre to receive the ball, accelerating as they do so. Once the ball is received the player passes it to the player diagonally across from where they started and follows their pass and joins the back of the queue. The drill continues.

Split players into pairs with one ball between them. The worker (player 2) drives from the centre to a cone and then back to the centre again to receive the ball from the feeder (player 1). The worker then passes back to the feeder and repeats. Each worker repeats this 10 times before changing over.

Set up: Four corners of about 2-3 players, 1/3 space, 2 balls.Balls start in opposing corners. Balls and player will be moving in an anti-clockwise rotation. Players from the corner without a ball drive on a diagonal into the third space and receive a pass from player with ball in front of them (corner to their right). Ball is received then passed on to the player at next corner, in anticlockwise direction. Player who drove joins the line they passed the ball to.The ball continues to rotate anticlockwise.

5 vs 5 or 7 vs 7 depending on numbersSet up 4 boxes as shown in the diagram, ~3m x 3m each.The Attackers start with the ball in one of the boxes. Their aim is to get to the opposite box using passing. They are allowed into the other boxes but will only score if they get the ball to the opposite box.If the Defenders successfully intercept they can start in a box and do the same thing.

Cone out a square, 5m x 5m, with 3 attacker's and 1 defender inside.One of the attackers starts with a ball.The attacker's aim is to get the ball to all 4 corners in any order without being tagged with the ball by the defender. They start again if they are tagged.They can only move the ball by passing, they can't run with it.You can swap the defender out if they make it to all 4 corners or wait until they have managed it a few times to progress.

Split players into groups of at least 10 players, with one ball between them inside a square grid (half a third).Players work in pairs (1-4) who start opposite one another. The ball starts with the number 1 (top left corner).The ball is passed around the outside of the grid. After the player has thrown the ball they switch places with their partner.Players do the skill practice for 1 minute then rotate clockwise to the next numbers start point.Challenge - if players do not make it to their point in time and miss the ball they are out.

The white C is the worker and will be working for 2 minutes and will then swap roles with the black C.The worker starts in the corner - side steps the horizontal lines then changes pace and direction, while sprinting the vertical lines.The worker then heads towards the feeder to receive a pass when the feeder wishes to put the ball in.The worker then sprints back to the corner changes pace and direction back to a side step then repeats around the whole grid creating a star shape.The worker works for 2 minutes trying to complete as many circuits of the star as possible in the 2 minutes.The feeder can only pass the ball to the worker when they are driving forwards to start with.

Ideas to defend an over head pass?

My WD has worked hard on getting her placement so when the ball is feeding into the circle, she is keeping her WA away and to the side, generally the WA is fed an overhead ball heading towards the the back corner. The WD knows what pass is coming, and it's placement, she feels confident she could challenge more, so need some drills to practise holding her player, but then moving round her opponent at the last moment to try and go for the ball as well as holding.
