Line drive - through court movement

Set up: One ball, full court, 5+ players. 1. Players line up down the middle of the court, evenly spaced. 2. Ball starts at one end and will simply be passed down to each player. 3. Players have to make a movement and time this with receiving the ball. 4. Player recieves a pass then turns and passes down the line.

Extras

Pass and Cut with Trigger

Set up: No set amount of people needed. Working in partners. 2 groups opposite each other. Two players drive out on and angle. One player receives a pass from the same line they have left. Receiver to pass back to partner who has driven out also. First receiver drives long and diagonal across court to receive a long pass from their partner then delivers it back to the line. Introduce trigger once players have mastered the above movement. Trigger – called by a nominated player to change the space. Same drill as above but to the opposite side of the court. When 'trigger' is called players aim to adapt to the other side of the court as quickly as possible. 'Trigger' player to initiate play and be passing/receiver option.

Movement

Pass and Cut- Shelley Special

Set up: 4 corners set up 2 feeders (static and with a ball each) Two players work together and drive out from opposite lines on the same half. Players straight drive to meet in the middle and touch (high 5). Both players then V cut towards direction of the feeder. Feeder delivers the ball to any one of the drivers. The driver who does not receive the ball becomes the attacker. The attacker must react and cross cut through court to receive a long pass in the opposite side of the court from the partner they have been working with who received the ball. Attacker to then return ball to the feeder on the opposite side to where they started.

Group practices

Passing and Cutting Through Court

Set up:2 balls4 corners in partners Partners drive out together. One to receive a pass (attacker A) from feeder in opposite line and one to anticipate defending the oncoming attacker from diagonal side. Feeder (from opposite line) delivers ball to either one of the drivers who then becomes the attacker. Attacker A delivers ball to opposite attacker who has driven from the diagonal side. Attacker A to drive and cut through court to receive the ball from diagonal opposite feeder. Defensive partner to defend oncoming space/person. Attacker to receive the ball in front of defender. Ball returns back to line. Workers to return to line.

Group practices

Through Court Backup Options

A game using the full court, 4 attackers, 4 defenders, 2 trailers. Split the court in half, 2 attackers, 2 defenders in each half. Both trailers in one half with attacking players "1". Attackers are aiming to move the ball from one end of court to halfway (and then on to the other end of court) 10 reps, keeping score (this can be reduced if you have a bigger squad). Rules: Defenders are fixed to their attackers up to halfway 2 original trailers are fixed to their half A1s can go anywhere. As they cross the halfway line they become trailers for the other attackers. (You can separate the court and just have the halfway aim for each side if players at one end are not getting the opportunity to be as active)

Attack

Through court play with at least two offers (with defenders)

Starting on a backline, players move the ball through the court ending up with the shooter who puts a shot up. Players should aim to pass the ball in the following order: GK, GD, WD, C, WA, GA, GS. If WD had the ball for example, ideally the C should receive it, but WA also needs to offer in a different space for the ball, as well as the GD providing a back up offer if the C is not available. There should always be a back-up offer from the player who has just received the ball, as well as a minimum of two offers from down the court. Players should aim to time their movement so they are reading off each other. Players have a defender on them.

Three Man Weave Movement - Net...

Set up: 6+ players, full court space, 1-4 balls, 8 conesThree cones are set up across the width of the court about a meter in from the sideline. In groups of three players line up across from each other behind the cones. Cones may be placed along the sideline so player understand they are to stay on the outside of theses cones but still in court. The ball starts with the middle person. Player on the left cone drives out straight and receives a pass from the middle. Middle person then runs to the person they passed the ball to. Player on left who received the pass, deliveries the ball to the third player who has driven out on the right. When players pass they the follow it to the player they have passed to take their position. Players continue this ‘weave’ down the court.

Across the court Interception ...

The player at one end starts by passing to the 1st attacking player. That attacking player then has to try and pass the ball to the 2nd attacking player. This continues until the final attacking player has passed the ball to the 2nd static player at the other end of the court. After which the player in the middle reverse rolls and the practice repeats in the opposite direction.

Passing Problems !!!!

Hi I am a first year coach of a 9 and under team.My girls are struggling with the concept of running to space and receiving a pass on the move while advancing the ball to our attacking third.It seems no matter how hard i try to implement drills for passing at practice, come game day the girls still group together and call for the ball standing still. Crowding GA WA in the transition

Hi guysSo I’m having a isssue with my GA and WA coming up way too high on our GK transitions. I keep telling the girls that they can’t cross that transvers line so soon, let your teammates GK, GD, WD & C bring the ball down as your making there space crowded and making it a lot harder to for GA to get in the shooting circle. hi, i'm going to be trying out for the Vicki Wilson competition and i am up against really good players that are in rep and int he A team in club netball. these players are so much better than me and there are nearly 30 people trying out to get into the team. i really want a position but it will be really hard to get in. the trials are going to be held inside a sports hall and we are playing on slippery wooden floor. i'm scared i might slip. also, there are going to be people watching us play, so i'm really nervous about that. i don't have training for netball, only netball games every Monday, so i'll have to do my own training. Tips for new centres

Hi Everyone I've been playing defence for a long time now, and only last Saturday did I start to play centre. It was during our warm up on that day, (before our game) when my coach told me that I would be playing centre. I agreed to do it, but the problem was that the other team was a really good and very fit team. I struggled a lot durig the game, and i felt like i was dying the whole time! Also because I had never played centre before I didn't know how to feed the ball into the goal circle. I also don't know how to defend on the goal circle. How can we resolve this problem?

A netball player (Goal Defence) who was the anchor in the team was not recognised as a great team player and now that the season has started and I am the coach for this team, I see the kids would not pass the ball to her and is very indifferent towards her. This is coming from the parents of those kids. This little girl, with her dence skills drove the ball to other side and the team made their first score at interschool netball. She is under my wing now, how do I approach this situation and my response to the mum (ex netball captain) who has taken the time to watch every netball game.

GS/GA Movement to get into a shooting position

Hi everyone, I'm a GS/GA and I shoot well but I struggle to make opportunities for myself to shoot in games. It is slightly better when I play GS if i stay in the circle, but when I play GA or come out, it has happened that I haven't shot at all. I either get blocked from going in the circle straight away or am too slow to position myself. Could anyone give me some pointers about basic movement? I have watching videos where players roll/cut - if a player is marking you face on and blocking you from entering the D, would that be how I get around them? Court strategies - 11s | Sport...

I have conflicting advice - don't teach too many court strategies ie C to WA to GS to GA from a centre pass as I have been told that it stiffles their thinking. But without this I find they all crowd the space and at 10yrs old it seems very difficult to get them to understand about reading who is already in that space.  Or perhaps I just aren't explaining that concept well??  And also when bringing the ball through the court from a goal line throw in at our GK end - same with strategies for that. Is it okay to say GK I won't you to throw it to GD, then GD to C and so on and this is where your area of the court is and I want you to stay in that area and try and get the ball there?  Keeping the WD on the otherside and making sure she doesn't cross over. Confusing over how much at this age we teach court strategies or perhaps they are know as plays.  Alice P

My friend coaches an under 13s team and when someone has the ball they all run for it like seagulls going for bread. The coach has told them many times to spread out and for not everyone to run to the ball at once but the girls keep doing it and they can't get the ball down the court.

How do I deal with a rude u15 ...

I have taken over coaching a 15/un open team about 8 months ago. The focus for improvement was to work on fitness. They are much fitter than when we started and now can finish off a game. There are 4 very good players and 4 average players. I need help with the attitude of one of the girls. She half-hearted takes direction, doesn't play well unless she plays in the position she wants to, constantly whispers negatives to others at training and is constantly giving us intolerable looks if she doesn't like what she hears. I could go on and on. And yes she is one of the average players. We have 3 coaches in the team and we have never come across such a rude girl. In my day you would get a ball in head if you weren't looking and listening to the coach! Please help with how we can engage this girl.
