I am a wing attack and don't now how to intercept
Hi,
Firstly, stay tight to your opponent and try and dictate their movement - forcing them high and wide. This will help you stick close and limit their space. Keep your footbase small and feet fast, this will help when you go for the interception so you can be quick off the mark.
Specifically for WA, on their backline, try not let the WD set up. Keep moving your feet around the player, similar to this example. Of course in the example the defender has more freedom to move around, however you will simply move back and forth around the WD on the circle edge. NOTE: defending on the circle edge can be very difficult as it will get pulled a lot for contact so be careful and time your movement well.
On a defensive centre pass try to set up on the inside of the WD, so you are forcing the WD outwards, towards the sidelines. If the C does choose to pass to your WD it will force and overhead ball and you are more likely to intercept the ball.
In general, through court, just stick tight to your WD at all times - even when the ball is in their goal third, pressurise the line. Have the confidence to go for the interception and when you do ensure you have fully committed.
Hope this helps.
in more ways than one
Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
