Defence stop the attack from hitting top of the circle - any drills to combat that in the attacks favour?

Hi Kelly,

Firstly as general guidance, I would ensure that your players are fully committed to the drive. For example, if they are dithering this is easy for the defender to mark and keep them away from the circle edge. Get your players to take on the defender (so run at them) once they get to the defender put down their outside foot and push off - so one change of direction, they should then cut the angle to reach circle edge. So remember DEFINITE DRIVES. Also if the attack cannot get free, it is ok to pass back to the third line to the WD or GD and let your attack work again to get better positioning.

Below are a few drills that I believe might help you:
1) Landing Circle Edge - this is a great drill to get your centre court working in a partnership to hit circle edge. This drill can be progressed to add defenders once your attackers have built on their confidence.

2) Circle edge drive - this drill is simple to above, yet works from a through court perspective.

3) Free on the circle edge - this drill helps your players get into a better position when they have obtained a circle edge position.

4) Give and go circle edge - this is a great group drill to get your players practising their movement in the goal third, working on and off the circle edge.

Hope this helps.
