Ball Handling and Coordination

A Worker and 2 Feeders set up in a triangle about 3m away from each other and each player has a ball. Worker throws the ball up in the air to start the drill. Whilst their ball is in the air: F1 passes a ball and the worker catches it and puts it between their knees F2 then passes a ball, which the worker catches and immediately passes back to F2 The Worker then catches their own ball again.

Train Your Brain

Set up in 2 lines facing each other. 2 working players out of the lines back to back facing the line they have come from and with a ball each. Working players pass back to their lines then run behind the front player in the line (one with the ball). They are then to drive on a digonal to the middle of the 2 lines and receive a pass. Working players are now facing each other with a ball each and pass with left hands to each other receiving the opposite ball. Players then pass a high ball to their right (the line they have come from) and drive to the left (other players line) to intercept the other ball before it reaches the line. Players to join the back of the line and a new working pair to start in the middle.

Group Hand Eye Co-ordination B...

2 balls, players in a circle. 2 players side by side start with a ball each (players A and B).Player A throws the ball up in the air, player B passes their ball to player A. Player A quickly passes the ball received from player B across to the next player on their other side and catches the ball they have thrown in the air. This is repeated all the way around the circle.

2+ players, one ball per player, 1/3 space.1. Players set up facing eachother about 1 metre apart with a ball each.2. Sidestepping the third, players alternate each ball using one handed passes. 3. Variation: One partner is 'bumping' the ball off to the working partner with their own ball using high passes.4. Variation: One partner is bumping the ball side to side with their own ball. Finishw with some over head bumps.5. Variation: Partners side step down the court with one partner as the 'bumper'.

WA and GA coordinating Centre ...

Set up a big square 9m x 9m, split into four 3m x 3m squares. It can be put into the context of court by positioning it just inside the shooting third. Position 2 attackers and 2 defenders as shown in diagram. A feeder starts outside of the squares with the ball. There is another defender in between the feeder and the square. This drill looks to progress a Centre pass from the 1st phase (receipt of the 1st pass) to the 2nd phase (passing options from the 1st phase). One of the attackers has to receive 1st pass over the front line, as they would in a game situation. The attackers then look to 2nd phase option: the second pass that looks to move the ball into the attacking third.

Passing around a 3ft mark Pass...

This drill will help your players pass around a defender's 3ft mark by encouraging them to use different release points and angles.Two feeders stand at opposite sides of a third with 2 workers in the middle who will change between being attack and defence. One feeder passes to the worker closest to them who becomes an attacker. The other worker becomes a defender and immediately puts their arms up to stop the pass from the attacker to the feeder at the other side.Once the attacker has passed to the feeder the drill reverses and the workers in the middle swap attack/defence. The players work on an imaginary straight line, so they can't move out to get the pass around the defender.2 sets of 12 passes for each attacker

The player with the ball starts by passing using a shoulder pass to the player opposite them They sprint to follow their pass to the back of the opposite line Next player shoulder passes then follows the ball, joining the back of the opposite line. Drill should be continuous.

Sometimes the ball is delivered near a line. These drills can help with ball handling skills and balance.1. In partners, one feeding one working. Worker is to stay stationary and receive passes from the feeder in an arching movement. Worker is to stretch to reach the ball and extend as far as they can.2. Partners work along the baseline. Worker to have one foot on the line. Passer to deliver a ball outside of the court, worker to recive the ball whilst stay inside the court. 3. Worker runs along base line and recives a pass on the go. Passer delivers the pass just outside the court. Worker to recieve the ball at a stretch and pass back to feeder.

Set Up: half court area, 12+ players, 8 balls. 4 stations each with 1 worker and 2 feeders with a ball each. A wall is required at station 4. Station 1: 2 feeders, each passing short sharp balls to a worker who is running side to side receiving and passing the ball. x8 reps and then worker to move to next station. Station 2: 2 feeders, feeder 1 delivering a loose, short pass, worker to receive and pass back, then drive back for a long pass from feeder 2. x8 reps and then worker to move to next station. Station 3: 2 feeders, Short pass from feeder 1, short pass from feeder 2, medium pass from feeder 1 and then a long pass from feeder 2. x8 reps and then worker to move to next station. Station 4: 2 feeders, two short flat passes alternating between feeders, one long pass from feeder 1, worker turns and passes to the wall, catches and returns the ball to feeder 1. x8 reps and then worker to move to next station.When workers have been to each station, swap with a feeder and repeat.

Middle player passes the ball to player on the outside. outside player passes diagonal across to other middle player and moves to the other corner to receive back the ball. to then pass it again across to the other middle player.

Starting on a backline, players move the ball through the court ending up with the shooter who puts a shot up.Players should aim to pass the ball in the following order: GK, GD, WD, C, WA, GA, GS.If WD had the ball for example, ideally the C should receive it, but WA also needs to offer in a different space for the ball, as well as the GD providing a back up offer if the C is not available.There should always be a back-up offer from the player who has just received the ball, as well as a minimum of two offers from down the court.Players should aim to time their movement so they are reading off each other.Players have a defender on them.

Drills for off season improvement?

Hi there, we are in South Africa, and the Netball season is pretty much over until next year. What Drills and practices can my daughter do on her own to keep her eye and mind sharp? She will be in the schools 1st team next year if all goes well. This year she was chosen to play for the provincial team so we want to build on this achievement. She plays GA or GS and still practises her goal shooting but what else? Please help

I coach 14b's and I have 2 girls that constantly step. 1 has gotten better when I remind her to watch her feet and slow down but the other just cant seem to get it. Hi, two of my 13 year old players are constantly stepping. I have tried drills, with the landing on their outside foot, both feet and even put a coin in one of their shoes, so they can tell which one they landed on but they still step. Any suggestions? Thanks
