Attacking rebound drill

Players toss the ball up on the backboard for themselves to then catch on the rebound. After catching the rebound players should go back up and this time try to score. Lastly players collect their ball and pass it to the next player.

Rebound

Back Cut Drill

(i) player now makes a v cut, imagines the defender is over-playing him and makes a Back Cut or backdoor cut receive phantom pass.(ii) Receives the ball and shoots.

Footwork and Movement

Floated Pass

Get players into pairs. The first pass has to go straight and is thrown into the air for the person on the other side to sprint across and retrieve. The passer runs across to the other side and receives a diagonal pass. On receiving the pass no.1 gives a straight floated pass.

Passing

Leave them standing

Players on the left start with a ball each. Going one player at a time they dribble out into the centre of the court where they meet the defender. The defender should prevent them from moving across the court. Before they get within arm's reach of the defender the attacking player should drive into the key where they have a shot.

Players will pass their way up the court (chest or bounce pass), as shown.

Seven players with two balls. One player is based at the circle of the free throw line (Player 2). Player 1 passes to player 2, player 1 who makes a cut and goes for a hand off pass. Player 1 passes to player 3 and goes to replace player 3. The same happens on the other side of the court using players 4, 2 and 5.

Simple passing and protect the ball

Simple passing technique. 2 Players with 1 ball 4m apart. Start with a chest pass, then bounce pass and then overhead pass. The receiver must pull the ball into their hip to protect the ball from their opponents.

The players need to dribble the ball around the cones until they reach the last cone before excuting a jump shot.

Two Pass Lay up Drill

Player 5 V cuts to the middle of the court Player 1 passes the ball and proceeds to cut to the basket 5 passes to 1, 1 performs a lay up, 5 rebound the ball.

Two players with one ball. Player 1 passes to player 2 who goes diagonally to the first cone, touches it and returns to the starting point, before receiving a pass from Player 2. Player 2 does the same as Player 1. They then give another pass and go to the second cone before repeating process.

Player from the left (1) runs in the direction of the basket (cuts in) to receive the passhe cone from the middle player (2 ) At the same time the player on the right (3) has time his/her run to be able to receive the pass from player 1 at the 2nd cone nearer the basket. After receiving the ball the player has to take a shot as soon as possible.

Select between 2 to 6 people to be in the middle (depending on the size of the group). The rest of the group each have a ball and on the command they have to dribble from one end of the court to the other. They have to make sure that they avoid the catchers in the middle who are trying to knock their ball away.If one of the dribblers is caught they join the other catchers in the middle.

First player basket cuts and then clears out. Second player pops out to the corner. Third player dives straight to the ball. Fourth player either pops out to the top as the safety or looks for the pass when he pops out to the wing.

Basketball: Simulate breakdown...

This drill will simulate breakdown play being the furthermost defender. Start at the guard position denying the ball. In the glide position go up and back twice then go into a help position opening up to the lane at the free throw lane. There is now an imaginary baseline breakdown. The offensive player is driving to the basket. Another [virtual] defensive player who has been guarding a player on your side moves to stop the ball handler, which leaves an offensive man wide open. Drop down to the base line under the basket to deflect or steal and pass made. The only offensive player who is completely open should be the player previously being marked, who is furthermost from the play and thus has the poorest percentage change at the basket. The [virtual] pass is thrown over the top to this man. React again to intercept this pass. Run onto the offensive player who is now into his shooting motion, jump to bother his shot. Do this drill three times on each side. Once this drill is perfected it can be used for quickness cutting the repetitions down to just 2 each.

Set play - Triangle Defense - ...

Start with 5 players on court as attackers.Ball starts on half way. 3 players at top creating a triangle, 2 players under hoop.Player with the ball passes to the 'strong side' and stack. Ball is passed around. Any player can put a shot up as long as the triangle is maintained. Players still hold triangle formation around the key - this gives options on offence.

Ghost play at the end of a ses...

Finish every session with ghost play. The best place to do this is a side court in a sports hall where you have a wall or access to a throw bag. If there are no walls or sports bags then use a spin back. Imagine being in a game situation making passes, moving off picks, posting up and rebounding. Make all the plays imaginable. Always be an offensive player doing all the scoring and controlling the game completely. Pass off the walls, rebound off the wall and through outlet passes, bring the ball up to court and even take foul shots. Do all the things you would do in a real game. Cutting off pick to catch and shoot. Keep the score close playing to 20. If one team gets to close tip in some miss shots to bring the game back close. Have the game ties at 18-18, count down from 10 seconds or tip in the miss to win.

3 Player Pass, Cut and Shoot S...

Setup the practice as shown. Player 1 starts with the ball with player 2 making a flash (sprint) cut to the elbow. Player 3 sprints to the cones in front of the before maing an L cut. Player 1 then passes the ball to player 2 who pivots and passes the ball to player 3 to shoot.

3v2 followed by 2v1 - Up and D...

To start 3 players attack the 2 defending players on the other side of the court. When the defenders collect the rebound they then attack the other basket against the 1 player that took the shot. (Drill the restarts with all 3 players who finished the previous run through on the offensive).

Knockout Shooting - Basketball...

A line at the free-throw line. The 1st 2 players will have a basketball. The player in front always gets to shoot 1st. As soon as the player in front shoots the player behind can shoot. If the shot is missed, you get your rebound and can shoot as close as you like. The 1st shot must be taken from the free-throw line. A player gets knocked out if the player behind scores before they do.

Split all your players into two teams and have them line up on opposite sides of the court.2 basketballs are placed at mid-court.Each player is given a number (eg. 1-5).The coach will set out a basket that each team will shoot at.The coach will call out a number.When the number is called out, the corresponding number will run out to get the ball, dribble to the basket and keep shooting till the shot is made.Once the shot is made the players will run after the ball and dribble it back to the center circle.The first player to score and get the ball back to the center circle wins.

Players line up outside the key in two lines, with one ball per line. The first player to run must shoot as soon as they enter the key. If they score their team get 2 points, if they miss but catch the rebound before it hits the floor and then score their team gets 1 point. If they miss altogether their team gets no points. The winning team is the one which gets to 21 points first.

Play out a 3 man weave to the half court line. Turn and play the 3 man weave back towards the basket. When close enough the player on the ball plays a layup shot.

Players will set out as shown in the animation.The top line will have a basketball. The first player in the line will pass to the person on the right wing.After making the pass the player will run and set a screen for the player on the left wing.The player will curl around off the screen for a short shot. The player who shoots will get the rebound and pass the ball back out to the line at the top. 2v1 to 3v2 3 v 2 - Basketball ...

2 players will attack 1 defender. After a shot has been taken all 3 players become offence and 2 defenders will run in to play a 3v2 at the other end. Once a shot has been taken at that end. The 2 defenders become offence and 1 defender will run in at the other end. This is a continuous drill, where each end the same thing will happen each time.

2 lines on the baseline, with the coach in the middle. The coach will roll the ball down the middle of the court. Both players will run and dive on the ball. The player that gets the ball is on offence and the other player on defence. They will attack the basket from the side they came from. First player to score wins.

Player 1 will pass the ball to player 2.Player 1 will cut around the cone and down towards the next cone where they will receive the ball from player 2. Once the ball has been received, player 1 will dribble towards the baseline and shoot.The players will then switch lines.

Can people with Rheumatoind or Osteo Arthritis, get into i.e Drafted, and play in Pro Leagues like NBA, NCAA or NFL. The player is a Male, 20 years old , 5'9 and is quite good at playing basketball. With the above stated situations what are his prospects of getting into Pro Leagues? Do these Leagues allow such kind of Players to play, at NBA and NCAA, or they are completely not sllowed to get through into these Leagues.

How to coach kids who don't sp...

I am currently coaching chinese students at an average age of about 7. Its for a basketball camp so there are no competitions or games to prepare for, merely working on individual skills. The problem I have is mostly with the language. I am currently a student so I know some of the language but not enough to exlain how a drill will work. Anyone have experience with this or any advice otherwise? I am a just a basketball player turned coach so any advice no matter how simple would be appreciated.
