Bread And Butter - Turn And Drive

3-5 players, 1 ball, 1/2 court space. 1 player, the feeder stands on the third line with the ball. The other two players (workers) stand about 3 metres away facing away from the feeder. The workers jog away from the feeder. When the feeder calls "turn" or "go" both workers turn and drive towards the ball in anticipation to catch the pass. The feeder can choose either players to pass the ball to. This can be set up with two sets of workers and the feeder can alternate between each set of partners.

Two players to drive out straight from baseline to top of the circle (approx.) they turn and drive out on a V to the side channels where the feeder passes ball to one of the drivers. The driving player who did not receive the ball is to cut back to the top of the circle (middle channel) and receive pass from their partner. The partner now without the ball cuts back into the middle channel to receive a straight pass from their partner. Ball is returned to stationary feeding player.

Get into pairs with one ball - one player will be the worker and the other the feeder Create the shape of a triangle - you may use 3 cones if you feel more comfortable The worker will simply use fast footwork to move around the triangle Once the feeder says 'GO' the worker will turn and drive onto the dropped ball The worker will retrieve the ball and try to hit a target - this may be set up on a wall for example

In pairs standing two meters apart. The receiver stands with their back to the feeder on the balls of their feet, ready to quickly turn. The receiver makes a sharp 180 degree turn and drives to either the left or right hand cone. The feeding player must fire a fast ball to the receiver who returns it before then turning away again.

The feeder places the ball on the worker's right hand side. The worker retrieves the ball and is then passed back to feeder.

10+ players2 stationary feeders, one on baseline and one around centre circle. 2 groups of 4+ players line up on either sideline. 2 players run from both sidelines, high five the opposite player in the middle of the court and then run out forming a "V" shape with their partner facing a feeder.Feeders pass to one of the pair facing them.Player that does not receive the ball cuts back and drives towards the other feeder, receive a pass from their partner.Ball is then passed on to the opposite feeder.

Two Players, One ball. The receiver Stands on the center cone, facing AWAY from the feeder. The feeder, standing three meters away from their partner is standing in a forward stance, ready to pass the ball. The feeder will give a command, directing the receiver the either stay, run left or run right. Depending on the command, the receiver must make a quick and decisive 180 degree turn to face their partner before then driving to receive and return the pass from where they have been directed to by their partner. This drill will ensure your players drive onto the ball and don't dawdle.

Turns again and accelerates to partner who is holding the ball. Play should recieve pass before the cone.

Set up: 2 post players, 2 balls, 4 cones set up in a square, 1/3 space.Workers line up behind a cone and drive straight out to first cone to recieve a sraight pass from passer.The worker then straight drives across to side cone, recieves a pass from other passer. Drives forward to front cone and receives diagonal pass from the first passer.Worker then drives sideways to the final cone to recieve a pass from the opposite passer. Worker drives midway between the front cones and recieves a pop pass.The worker then returns to the liine they came from and next worker drives out.

In turn the worker feeds the ball to the feeder and then drives to the spot. The worker then changes direction and drives on to the fast and flat pass from the feeder. Finally the worker passes to the next player in the opposite line who then passes to the feeder and repeats the exercise in opposite direction.

Set up two equal lines of players, stood behind the post.Each player has to run out to a cone on the edge of the shooting circle where they then receive a pass landing with one-two footwork. Players then take a shot, and collect the rebound.After collecting their own rebound players rotate positions. The shooter goes to edge of the shooting circle with the ball and the player previously outside the shooting circle joins the back of the line.Drill then continues.

In one third of the court split your players into groups of 9 with one ball. Coach starts the practice. Each player at the front of the line (in turn) moves out to then drive onto the flat fast pass. They then pass the ball on to the next player in the sequence. Each player after having passed the ball goes to the back of their original line. Definite drive (no dithering)!

Set up 4 cones in a square, 3m apart3 players start on different corners (leaving the top right corner free).The player at the bottom right runs to the free corner to receive the ball from the Player at the top left.The player at the bottom left runs to the now free corner to receive the ball.In this way players move around the square anticlockwise.Once they have made it back to their starting position, reverse the direction.

Working in threes with 1 ball per group. The 1st player has their back to the others throws the ball up and over their head, turns and catches the ball before then passing to the centre player. The centre player receives, rotates and releases (3 Rs) to the next player. The third player then receives the ball and rotates before restarting the drill from the other side.

Three stationary feeders assembled as a triangle facing the shooting circle (two either side of circle and one at the transverse line). Description:Players on base line: Player closest to feeder passes the ball to standing feeder at side of circle. Both players drive out from base line. Player who passed the ball drives around the feeder who was just passed to (diagonal drive). Other player drives towards the stationary feeder near transverse line (straight drive), they need to prepare to receive a pass. First feeder catches and delivers a pass to the forward driving player before they get to the stationary feeder.The driving player with ball now passes ahead to the stationary feeder at the transverse line. The first initial driver has driven around first feeder and aims for a cross court straight drive to the final feeder.Stationary feeder at transverse line delivers a pass to the initial driver which will be received mid court. Initial driving player passes to the last stationary feeder in front of them and continues to drive around them.Other driving player would have driven around the transverse standing feeder and drives straight back towards base line and will receive a pass from the last stationary feeder midcourt before sending the last pass to the other driving player.

Pass and DriveSet up: 1 ball, shooting third, 4 lines of playersThe ball starts with player on middle of transverse line (A).Player from the line midway down sideline (B), drives in front of A to receive a pass.Player B passes from middle of the third/top of the circle on a diagonal out to player standing at the corner of transverse and sideline intersection (C). Player B joins line player C is from. Player C delivers ball to a player (D) who has driven from baseline corner to the edge of the circle. At the same time player D drove out, another player (E) from the same line drives into the circle. Player D delivers ball to player E in the circle. Players D and E act as WA/C and GS/GA feeding in and out of circle. Player E may choose to put up a shot. Player E delivers ball back to starting point A.

5 players, 1/3 space, 2 balls3 players set up in a triangle, these are the feeders.2 players set up back to back in centre of the triangle. The top feeder is 'free'.1. Feeders deliver 5 'anywheres' to players. Players then turn and either deliver the ball to the free feeder or directly to the other passing feeder. 2. They then begin 5 anywheres with the opposing feeder. This time they do not pass the ball themselves, they either drive straight to the opposing feeder or if they are still busy pass the ball off to the free feeder.

Equipment: Dependant on numbers, one ball between 2, full court area.Players are in 2 lines down the length of the court. One line of players has the ball. The other line stands inbetween these players facing them (i.e. not directly opposite). Coach wil call either number; one, two or three. Followed by either left or right.The number determines the movement. Left or right determines the way the workers drive. If workers drive left they should lead with their left hand to the ball and if they drive right, the right hand should touch the ball. One: Workers drive to either left or right. Tap ball. Drive back on an angle to recieve a long pass.Two: Workers drive and tap either left or right hand. Drive back the same angle with a side switch half way back.Three: Same as two but once workers reach their start point they drive forward and recieve a flat pass from the post.

Set up: Full court space, 4 x mini hurdles, 8x short ladders, 10x cones.Players are divided into 2 groups. Players start at baseline.Two players, from the front of each line begin by jumping over the mini hurdles (set up at right angles to each other).They then run to ladders set up in a cross formation. Action 1: Forward steps into each square.Action 3: Left turn: Forward steps into each square and backwards to return to the middle. Action 3: Right turn. Steps in and out of squares both directions to the middle.Action 4: Stright weave with both feet in each square. Players run towards cones set out in a zig zag formation across the middle third space. Players run from cone to cone in a zig zag direction.The focus is on taking off the outside foot. Players sprint to the end baseline then turn and sprint back to where they came from.

Using stratagies in netball

Hi, i am predominantly a U12yrs coach but i want to transition in to coaching the high school girls. I love all these drills and session plans and have found them very helpful, but i am looking now for information on strategies used in netball eg/strategic positioning of players when changing from attacking to suddenly defending after a turnover, or when should the GA drop back . when to use a zone defence or side-on defence. All these questions that aren't covered by drills. Is there somewhere to get this info or is it just learn as u go. Thank you

How do I stop my players from ...

Hi I coach a great team of under 9s and when we do a driving drill we start with "pitter patter feet" (like a very fast low jog on spot) then when i say GO they drive forward. However a lot of them step back with their foot then drive forward. Any tricks out there to get just going forward? Is it just the foot they start on like the strong foot? Or something else?
