I have thoroughly enjoyed using your site to help me with my coaching plans for my under 9's netball team.
Does anyone have a drill to encourage under 11's to come forward for a pass rather than asking for the overhead pass all the time as they are 'running away' from the ball in their haste to get to the circle?
I am coaching 9 and 10 year old girls who have played little or no netball to date. Am I best to rotate their positions so they can experience them all or keep them in the same place for a while until they get used to it?
Does anyone have any sample session plans that they have used for their level 2 coaching, i don't want to copy them, just want to see how much detail i need to put in. I have to do 4 linked sessions based on one either attacking or defending principal and show progression in each session. Any help would be gratefully received. From - a new coach!
I am coaching U/9 team that has just started this season. We have just recruited another girl and so now we have 9 children playing. I want to give everyone an opportunity to play different positions, without confusing them! How can I rotate the positions to give 8 players a quarter off without disrupting the team too much?
Hi i am new to teaching and im teaching netball to year 5. I have never taught this in my life! Please Help! Do you have to teach the full game or do can you play in mini teams eg 4 groups of 6 without using bibs and positiions. I only have 4 weeks to teach it and they are still practising passing and catching skills, can anyone help please?
My defenders often loose focus and try to concentrate on too much. They watch the ball, their player, where the post is, our player, there wings, put up wrong arms, run past player etc. Our drills are spot on, and training is generally very good, but when we get into a game they loose confidence, panic and and look like they are being turned inside out. They are 15/un Open.
What are attacking strategies and defending strategies??? I need to finish my coursework and I am stuck with those two!
How does a defender know where to judge her 3 foot defensive stance when shooters opt for a simultaneous split landing?
HII'm coaching girls aged 10-11 with a varied mixed skill based some are highly skilled, medium and very basic. And its making it very hard in our transitions. Our association is very strict on player rotation and equal court time so therefore some of these girls just arent a GA, GK or C etc etc. I've tried my very best to even out the court balance to get the flow, but some of the girls just arent present which is making some of the other girls become frustrated. At training we stick to the basics so that everyone understands correct passing, footwork, attacking and defending. I also incorporate other skills and drills for the girls that do get the concept of the game more, but its just so hard with these girls. It's like i have 3 different skill levels in one team. Any tips would be great!!
I've just recovered form an ankle injury after 4 weeks without any netball. i was wondering how i should get back to netball, because i often find myself wondering if i will still be good at attacking and defending and all the other things you need as a player. Should i take it easy on the first week of training? What if i'm not good enough for the games we have on Saturday??
We are playing summer comp (13 yr old girls). We have one shooter with a broken finger, and usually one other is injured or sick each week leaving us weekly with 5 players only. Which 2 positions do I not fill? Another coach told me WA and WD but I feel it just gives us both a weak attacking and a week defending team. I'm now thinking of putting the girls in attack only (GS GA WA C) with one girl in defence- GD ( and our centre covering the WD position from the other teams centre pass) This way we increase our chances of scoring from our own centre pass and still have someone defending their GA and WA from their centre pass in the hope of a intercept. I'm due to start coaching some 6-12yr olds in February (have a meeting ahead of that in a week). At the moment I don't have any idea about abilites or previous experience but plan to ask about that next week, though I am guessing it won't be much, especially the younger ones. At the same time, I will be hepling to mentor some new coaches to help them progress (they will be Level 1 so assistant level in England). Any good tips for starting points? I have 12 weeks with them (all 1 hour sessions). My thoughts were to start with things like basic techniques for passing and getting footwork correct before moving onto attacking and defending principles as well as making sure there are plenty of fun games they can take part in.
Or a good site to purchase a pack from ( basic rule, basic fundamental skills and drills etc?)

Our new season starts in September. When planning do coaches plan for the entire season? The first four sessions? The first three months? Also do you start with maybe four sessions on defence then four on attack? Or do you mix it up?
Is it obstruction if the defending player is standing next to the person in possession of the ball with their arms down ie. not attempting to defend or intercept the ball whilst mid-court? There is a lot of mixed messaging from umpires around this rule, particularly if it occurs within goals with some umpires saying as long as you're not putting your hands up to defend the ball or standing in front of them then it is not obstruction to then being called obstruction in instances decribed above.

Hi, i am predominantly a U12yrs coach but i want to transition in to coaching the high school girls. I love all these drills and session plans and have found them very helpful, but i am looking now for information on strategies used in netball eg/strategic positioning of players when changing from attacking to suddenly defending after a turnover, or when should the GA drop back . when to use a zone defence or side-on defence. All these questions that aren't covered by drills. Is there somewhere to get this info or is it just learn as u go. Thank you
I have been told that it is ok for WD to use their far arm, palm facing outwards across the WA, yet other coaches have questioned it as obstruction ?
I have began coaching Under 9's this season, we have played 3 games and I have kept the girls mostly in the same positions as my plan was to spend a few weeks in an Attacking Position, then a few in a defending position and then say the last 5 games in the area you are best at and enjoy the most. I was planning to change positions for this Saturdays game, but training has been cancelled due to bad weather. My question is, do I change their positions on game day with limited time to do any sort of game plan etc or do I just keep the same as the past 3 games? I know there is no right or wrong however I am interested in your opinions.
