MIXED LEVELS IN NETBALL TEAM

MIXED LEVELS IN NETBALL TEAM

HII'm coaching girls aged 10-11 with a varied mixed skill based some are highly skilled, medium and very basic. And its making it very hard in our transitions. Our association is very strict on player rotation and equal court time so therefore some of these girls just arent a GA, GK or C etc etc. I've tried my very best to even out the court balance to get the flow, but some of the girls just arent present which is making some of the other girls become frustrated. At training we stick to the basics so that everyone understands correct passing, footwork, attacking and defending. I also incorporate other skills and drills for the girls that do get the concept of the game more, but its just so hard with these girls. It's like i have 3 different skill levels in one team. Any tips would be great!!

you will generally find this in almost any team in this age group and over the next few years. it can be tough, but if you can identify what position your strong players excel in in the years to come the help extend them in the drills while keeping the basics for those who aren`t ready to be extended. its good for them to try different positions so this age group will be good for that. you can only work with with what you have. keep it simply and ensure the strong players have the basics down pat.

I have the same with a group of 13/14yos. 4 are advanced. 3 middle of road. 3 basic skills. I try to keep equal court time which is hard when players are away. What i do for team positioning is to team up strong players with weaker players. Eg if my wd and wa are weak, then i have an experienced ga and gd. If my ga is weak then i have a strong gs. If we are playing an easier team then i put a weaker c on court. It took me a couple of games to work it out and a while to plan but i do it. With training i did basic skills for 6 weeks till my strong players were bored.. Now i have ramped it up to cater for them. My weaker players were a bit shocked at first but as i explained to them it will extend them and they will learn. I pay extra attention to them at first when doing a new drill and keep an eye on them.
