Intercepting - group Intercept...

Split the group into minimum of 3 people with one ball per group. Player 2 runs to the side to receive ball from player 1. They then turn and feed the ball to player 3 (the next player waiting in line). Player 3 feeds the ball back to player 1 as player 2 moves quickly through to try and intercept the pass.

Team Drill - Intercepting Game...

Get your players into two teams of 4/5/6, one team wears bibs. The aim of the game is to get as many clean intercpetions as possible within the third over 60 seconds. You count how many clean intercepts each team can get when they are defending over the course of the 60 seconds. Once a player intercepts the ball they must put the ball down on the ground for the attacking team to pick up and keep going. Change over teams once the 60 seconds are over (attackers become defenders and vice versa) and see which team can get the most interceptions.

Intercept - Strike like a ninj...

Two players are passing the ball between them in a consistent rhythm. The defender stands behind one of the attackers and has to try and time their move to get in front and intercept the ball. Following the successful interception the defender passes the ball to the opposite player and then runs to the other side, ready to intercept again!

Red 2 has the ball and red 1 starts in the opposite corner Blue 1 runs forward and Red 2 passes a diagonal pass to Blue 1 Red 1 moves on a diagonal to intercept the pass Following the interception red 1 feeds a straight pass onto Blue 2 Red 2 then runs straight to receive a diagonal pass from Blue 2 and Blue 1 moves across to intercept this pass.

WD/GD Interceptions Group prac...

Feeder, 2 attackers, 3 defenders. Feeder starts play from the Centre Circle. The attacker runs forward off the third line into the middle third to receive the ball, marked by a defender. They then pass a lateral ball to the feeder who has moved out to the side, where there is another defender acting as a 3ft mark. The attacker runs into a space in the end third to receive the ball back. When they have received the ball again they pass to an attacker in the circle, who is also marked. The defender in the circle (GK) can help the other defender if they get shut out. However if both defenders get drawn to the attacker then the feeder can pass straight to the GS in the circle.

Whole group drill, 5 cones, 2 feeders (red) and 2 balls.Players drive forwards, change direction on the cone and make the interception from a high ball from the feeder at the 2nd and 4th cone.

Midcourt Intercept- Circle Fly...

Set up GS and GK in the shooting circle. Two midcourt players start with the ball in the centre third towards the transverse line. One player in the centre of the court (C), one on the side (WA). Ball starts with the player in the center and is passed square to the other midcourt player who passes straight back.The WA player on the side then drives as if heading to the pocket, in the same channel. C player passes a long ball to the pocket for the WA. GK comes out of the circle hunting for that long ball to the WA ensuring the timing is right.If GK is successful, they then pass back to the C and drive up the court.

Players in pairs with 1 ball between them. They have to keep possession of the ball by passing it around and running into spaces, whilst 1 or 2 catchers are nominated to try and intercept the balls. When a pair lose the ball, they move out of the area and those intercepting continue to do so until all balls have been intercepted OR a time limit is reached.

Set up: 3 lines are set up in triangle formation, one ball. 3 feeders at the front with a<br>defensive player behind.Ball is passed around the 3 front players.Feeder is at the front of each line with the intention to receive a pass from any two of the other lines.Player immediately behind the front person is to time an intercept from incoming pass.Once pass received from defender it can be passed to any other line and the same is repeated.Rotate through feeders and defenders.

3 and 4 are posts (static). 1 and 2 can only feed the ball straight. They pass the ball to each other and occasionally feed to 3 and 4. Defender 1 must go for the interception. NB-the defender must be successful to build confidence<br />

Intercepting passes down court...

Half the group have a ball each, the other half has to stand tactically in between the two lines. The players with the balls start behind the line and have to try and get across to the other line by using the static players (middle players can pivot on the spot). 1 or 2 catchers have to try and intercept the balls. Players caught out must either sit out or help catch out the remaining players. See how many of the attacking team can get successfully across to the other side!

Intercept with Active Feeder I...

Have two feeders passing a ball back and forth about 5m apart.  Position two cones on either side of one feeder, making a gate. The defender has to run between one gate after an intercept, before making the next intercept, alternating sides. The feeder at the opposite end has the option of holding onto the ball if the defender moves too early. If this happens then the other feeder who was set to receive the ball will move in between the cones that the defender has just come from, to receive the ball out to the side. This will help the defender recognise if they are moving too early or too late and make them recover to move back for the intercept.

Players 2 and 3 stand just in front of a line. White 1 stands in the middle but just behind the line, and is ready to move, on her toes. The feeder feeds the ball to one of the posts and the worker must move forward to intercept the pass before returning to her start position.

Blue 2 moves to receive ball from Blue 1 and returns the ball to Blue 1, who immediately throws to White2. Blue2 attempts to intercept pass. When completed, reverse exercise to receive on the other side.Blue 1 moves out etc.

The defender (green 1) attempts to intercept the ball as it is passed between 3 static players. It's important that the three attacking players are not standing too far away from each other. Focus on the defender.

Feeder (Blue 1) throws the ball against the wall. Blue 2 faces the wall and reacts to catch the rebounding ball. Progression: The worker must face the feeder and turn as the ball is released.

Have 2 Feeders (F1, F2) passing to each other about 5m apart.The defender will start to the side and slightly behind F2. F1 will pass the ball to F2 and the defender will go for the intercept. If they get it they pass back to F1 (if not F2 passes back to F1).The defender then runs back the way they came the whole way around the back of F2, to make a circle before intercepting the next.Challenge your defenders to get 6 intercepts of passes in a row.

Working in 2 teams players must make passes across the square. When the ball reaches the other side it counts as a point. The teams work in opposite directions, one team horizontally (blue), one team vertically (green).Players on the outside edge can move up and down the length of their line, but can not move off it.Players in the centre of the square can move anywhere within the square but must make sure they are aware of the players around them.The focus of the practice is on the defenders.The 2 defenders (red) work inside the square and can only intercept passes from their allocated team.

Player 1 has the ball. The middle player takes two steps forward to receive a high ball from player 1. He feeds the ball back to player 1 and then moves to the line as player 1 passes to player 2. The middle player moves back to intercept a pass from player 2 to player 1.

White 1 must move to intercept the pass.<BR><b>Progression</b>:- Defence must move round feeders so eventually she is starting from behind her.

Two players chest pass the ball to each other. Defender (Green1) starts at the side of the receiver and attempts to intercept the pass in front of blue 2. As she becomes successful, the defender moves round the receiver until , eventually she is starting from directly behind her. She must not move until the ball is released.

Figure of eight Interception -...

Split players into pairs with one ball and three cones, placed in a triangle. The feeder stands above the top of the triangle. Using quick, small steps the worker has to rotate around the cones in a figure of 8 before then receiving the ball and returning it to the feeder at the top of the triangle. Start slowly before gradually increasing the pace.

Hi,What can a team of 9 people do to train, with noone to play against? Often there are 7 people at training so we find that we don't have enough people for alot of the drills or because there is an odd number someone gets left out.What are the main things we should work on?
