Get your players into two teams of 4/5/6, one team wears bibs.
The aim of the game is to get as many clean intercpetions as possible within the third over 60 seconds. You count how many clean intercepts each team can get when they are defending over the course of the 60 seconds.
Once a player intercepts the ball they must put the ball down on the ground for the attacking team to pick up and keep going.
Change over teams once the 60 seconds are over (attackers become defenders and vice versa) and see which team can get the most interceptions.
Remind your players to focus on their timing and to stay close to the players they're marking. Work on each player being marked at all times.
Play across a 1/3 of the court, with one team in bibs. You might like to keep a pen and paper handy to keep a tally of the interceptions during this game - that way you can add up all the scores come the end of the game!
After 60 secs repeat the same drill for 30 seconds, and then for 15 seconds.
Come the end of this game give the winning team high praise and a pat on back. The winning team can now think up a penalty for the losing side, ie. 10x sprints, 10x press ups, 10x, star jumps...
You will be surprised at what they come up wth as a penalty!

The double play - pass, drive, receive it straight back - is the quickest way to slice through a settled defence. Elite coaches like West Coast Fever's Dan Ryan have made it a signature. Here is how to build the give-and-go into your team's attack.
Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
