Attacking and dominating with the serve

-Player 1 is serving in shaded area all the time.-Player 2 is not allowed to stand in the tramlines before player 1 serves.-After the return play out the point. -Each pair keeps their score and plays first to 7 points.

Attacking

Attacking forehands on the move

Coach feeds three balls per player from the basket. Players should aim to hit the targets (as in diagram - can use cones to mark out targets). The aim is to encourage players to progressively attack on the move.

Forehand Drills

Queen/King of Depth

-Both players have cones approx 2 meters in front of base line (depending on players skill level.-Players gain a point each time they hit between the cone and the base line. -First player to 11 points wins the game.To make the drill easier it can be played on one half of the court and later progressed to full court. The game can also be started with with a second serve.

Rally Drills

Shot selection

-Players play in pairs as a team and alternate shots scoring a point each time a shot is hit in the back 1/3 of the court.-If a ball is hit short the players can attack. -Attacking shots should also be hit deep (1/3 back of court) and if they are hit as outright winners the team will score an extra 3 points.-First side to 7 points wins the game.-The game can also be started with service and then carried on as described above.

Rally Drills

Spanish style

Working on net clearance and top spinPlace 4 rackets on top of the net.Players should aim to hit the ball to the last quarter of the court. Pairs take it in turns and rally for the highest score.

Forehand Drills

Working on ground strokes

-Alternate feeding to forehand and backhand side.-Players in line shadow hit behind the front player.-After two strokes hitters move to back of alternate lines.

Push Out Rally Drills - Tennis...

Mark out continuations of the outside tram lines behind the court. Play out normal points but player can claim bonus points if the win the point after 'pushing' their opponent beyond the tram-lines.

Plus and Minus Rewards Rally D...

Players play the point out from their hand in a full court as normal.If they win the point with a clear winner or by forcing an error from their opponent they get plus 1 point. However, if they make an unforced error of any kind, they get minus 1 point.Players can play until 1 player reaches plus or minus 7 points.

<BR>-Place markers in each corner.<BR>-Players aim for either of the two outside markers attempting to make the opponent move.<BR>-Players must recover quickly after each shot.

<BR>-Lines of cones are placed as seen in the picture above.<BR>-To make the drill easier it can be played on one half of the court and later progressed to full court.<BR>-If the ball lands in the service box a point is deducted.Ball landing between the 2 lines of cones = 1 point.Players gain 3 points for shots hit into the last quarter.<BR>-First player to 11 points wins the game.<BR>-The game can also be started with a second serve.

Coach feeds the ball to the ad side.Player steps inside the baseline and hits backhand down the line.Coach feeds another ball to the ad side.Player runs around the ball and hits forehand drop shot inside in.

Coach serves wide from the deuce side, and the player hits a forehand cross-court return, aiming for the ball to bounce in the coned area. Modification includes coming to the net after returning and finishing with forehand in the air.

Player serves to the body from the deuce side, aiming through the cones. The coach then feeds a regular ball to the advantage side, and the player finishes with a deep backhand cross-court volley in between the cones on the other side of the court.

No winners! Rally Drills - Ten...

Players are working in the full court and take it in turns to feed the ball in out of their hand.They are playing the point out as normal but with the stipulation that they are not allowed to hit a winner to win the point! Players must make their best effort to reach balls, it is up to the coach to decide whether they have done this and whether the ball hit was an outright winner - in which case it will not be counted!Players can play first to 11 points, this can and should take a quite a long time!</div>

You will need a resistance band to perform this drill. The player takes the band and shadows their serving motion. In this drill, the player warms up all the body parts needed for the serving action. The resistance band is great for working the arms as they are separated.

Player serves from the deuce side and delivers a wide serve, in between the cones. The coach will then hit the ball back cross-court, where the player finishes with a slice down the line, aiming between the cones.This is a progression of the Deuce Wide And Forehand Down Line drill above.

In this Drill the players start in the tram line. With the coach feeding the first ball from the basket the first player hits a controlled forehand back to the player at the net who in turn plays the ball in to the open court for the player to run onto the ball and hit a winner down the line. Player then runs around the cone and returns back to the queue.

Kick Tennis - Moving net Kicki...

Split the group into three teams. One team starts in the middle of the grid along the line. The idea of the game is to kick the ball over the middle team and try to land the ball in the oppositions area. If the ball is caught then no points are scored, if the ball bounces in the oppositions area then 1 point is scored. If one of the players in the middle catches the ball (they gain 1 point) then they swap positions with the team that kicked the ball.

Donkey Coordination / Fun Game...

Players hit one ball before running round the court to the other end. Each player gets 3 lives and loses one if they make a mistake, or fail to get into position on time. Alternatively players can collect letters for each mistake they make until they spell a work (like donkey). The winner is the one left standing. The coach can state at any time for the players to change direction in the way they are running around the court, even mid rally!
