Court strategies - 11s

I have conflicting advice - don't teach too many court strategies ie C to WA to GS to GA from a centre pass as I have been told that it stiffles their thinking. But without this I find they all crowd the space and at 10yrs old it seems very difficult to get them to understand about reading who is already in that space.  Or perhaps I just aren't explaining that concept well??  And also when bringing the ball through the court from a goal line throw in at our GK end - same with strategies for that. Is it okay to say GK I won't you to throw it to GD, then GD to C and so on and this is where your area of the court is and I want you to stay in that area and try and get the ball there?  Keeping the WD on the otherside and making sure she doesn't cross over. Confusing over how much at this age we teach court strategies or perhaps they are know as plays.  Alice P

How do I teach my team to read the play?

I coach a team of U15 girls who vary in their ability. Our play from the baseline throw in is disjointed and the ball is often intercepted as a result. What is the best way to teach the girls to read each others play and operate as a smooth unit?

Players running around too much and not using the corridors?

How do I stop my girls from running around the court so much. also, not really taking notice of their fellow players on court and they tend to both end up going for the ball. most of the focus is on the ball - not space.

What is a good drill for moving into space?

My kids are 12 and they do not know how to move this always slows them down what do i do in training to get them to move?

Ideas for improving focus and calming our defenders?

My defenders often loose focus and try to concentrate on too much. They watch the ball, their player, where the post is, our player, there wings, put up wrong arms, run past player etc. Our drills are spot on, and training is generally very good, but when we get into a game they loose confidence, panic and and look like they are being turned inside out. They are 15/un Open.

How do I encourage my players to come towards the ball?

I have a child on my team who is a good little player but she is being left out during the transport of the ball from the defence end to the attack end. She runs in line with the ball but passes to her get intercepted as she is running away from and not to the ball. The others don't see her most of the time and don't look for her

Back line throw in from defence end

Can the back line throw in be bounced in the goal third but actually received in the centre third on the transverse line by the WA or GA?

Clearing out and re-attacking

I have a strong team of u21's who play brilliantly, except for running into one another space. Is there a drill which focuses on clearing out before re-attacking as a group?

Day Dreamers, keeping the kids focused

Im currently coaching 10 - 12 yr old girls, I need some tips on how to keep them focused on the game (stop daydreaming). They seem to "daydream" or their eyes wander when they have thrown the ball and its no longer down their end.

Infront for a pass instead of dropping back.

Whats a good drill to help with coming infront of their partners instead of the immediate thought of dropping back for a pass?

Shoulder passing drills

Hi, I coach a team of good standard 9 and 10 year olds. I am coaching them to pass the ball up the court more quickly and with pace, using shoulder passes. Can you recommend any good drills for this. Asked using Sportplan Mobile App

Basic attacking strategy for 1...

Help, dad thrown in the deep end - what basic attacking strategies do you use for 11 years olds? They have great skill and have played since they were 5 years old, but still run around like headless chickens, everyone calling for the ball and getting in each other's way. Is there a method to this madness I can teach? Some teams look like they know who is going to pass to who and the ball gets from one end to the other fluidly. Impart your netball wisdom on me, oh great netball coaches! Asked using Sportplan Mobile App

Breaking a defensive zone in g...

Hi, my team is having issues breaking a defensive zone where the GD and GK sit high in our attack end and play an area rather than players, we tried manning up on them but just crowded the attack end and didn't work?  If we lob over them the other defender drops back and picks up the intercept, same when we pass to the corners.  Any advice will be gratefully received! What a fantastic tool. The Chalkboard and session tools make an unbelievable difference in making training plans in both time and organization. I will be instructing all of my assistant coaches that this tool must be used for all sessions during the season, so that we may build a club coaching resource library.
