Shoulder passing drills

Hi, I coach a team of good standard 9 and 10 year olds. I am coaching them to pass the ball up the court more quickly and with pace, using shoulder passes. Can you recommend any good drills for this.

once you have warmed them up with shoulder passing practise using both left and right arms for throwing, you can zig zag them down the court about 10m apart (id put cones down at each location where they will stand and run to and one extra at the opposite end of the drill starting point). at one end a player has the ball and will pass to the diagonal player who will run towards the next player and catch the ball in the middle of the zig zag. the player who passed the ball will then run to the location that the cone that the receiver of the pass came from. the player who received the ball will then pass to the next person who has run to receive the pass in the middle of the zig zag. this continues down the zigzag. you could be the last pass and so the drill goes back in reverse.

ensure that the pass is received in the middle of the zig zag and the person receiving the pass does not break too early and is receiving the pass from a pass in front of them and not stopped waiting. once they get the idea of the drill you can add in a clear before breaking to receive the pass.

you could also do a 3 person weave down the court to get them use to cutting across court to receive a pass.

the last thing i would consider is teaching some set centre breaks on where they are taught the basic plays to get the ball into the circle. This gives them better idea of where they should be going and the position on court they should be in during a game.
