Lineout Progressions With Bag ...

1.Two players stand either side of a tackle tube (tackle tube on the floor 'stood up').The coach shouts go and the two players turn inwards to face each other and the tube.The players then get set in a low position before lifting the tube into the air.2.Three players. One in the middle faces forwards. One player either side holds a tackle tube.The coach shouts left or right (or a call to their discretion) for the middle player to turn to.The middle player and the teammate on that side lift the tackle tube into the air the same as the first drill.3.Three players. Two players set up in the set position either side of one tackle tube, while the other player is set on their own behind a tackle bag facing inwards.The player on the outside of the two runs quickly round their first bag, to join the player on their own.Together the players lift the tube into the air, as per the first two drills.

Lineout Race Lineout - Rugby D...

This drill is a race across the pitch or whichever distance the coach deems appropriate.Two teams of four: one thrower, three players in the lineout pod. The front lineout player faces towards the pod, with their back to the thrower.The teams are lined up next to each other, about 5-10 metres apart.The coach shouts GO and each team's lineout taker throws the ball as the pod lift the middle player into the air to catch the ball.Once the ball is caught, the middle player is let down to the ground and they leave the ball on the floor.The three pod players then move to the next spot ready for the next lineout throw.The outer pod players then lift the middle player to the air as the ball is thrown in.If the ball is dropped, the throw must be taken again from the same position.

- Aim is to work on the lift and hold, and the accuracy of pass from the top- 3 pods of 3 men stand in a triangle, 3m away from eachother. - Thrower throws ball at first pod, who compelte a lift and catch. - The catcher then asses the ball to the next lifter in the pod of 3 next to them. - Pass around the triangle then back to the thrower.

Lay out four cones in a square.Lineout thrower stands on one cone and three lineout pod players on the next cone round.The front and back players face inwards towards the middle player.The lineout taker throws to the middle players as the front and end players lift the middle man into the air.The lineout taker then runs to support and receives the pass from the middle man as they are on the way down.The lineout taker is then in place, and the three pod players run round to the next cone.The game has effectively reset, and the lineout takes place again.Overall there will be four lineout throws in the game.

Defender passes to the attacker who attempts to score against the defender within the grid. 3. 1v1 Tackle Channel Players line up in two lines adjacent to the coned area.<br>Coach shouts go and the front two players run round their end to end up facing each other.<br>The coach passes the ball to the attacker who runs at the defender, and the defender tries to take them down.4. 2v2 Track and Tackle 10m wide channel, 2 attackers start with the ball while 2 defenders atart at the other end.when instructed the attackers attempt to score agaisnt them.Do continuous reps.

6x6m Grid Ball Players line up in 3s opposite sides of the grid. Simply pass the ball along the line. 1 defender is in the middle of the grid putting pressure on all ball carriers.Once hand completed the next line starts immediately. Defender swaps out when there is a mistake or when he touches someone with the ball. Progression: add another defender, make the passes wider.

Bibs 1. 1v1 in 5mx5m Grid.Players line up opposite eachother on a grid, Attacker has to score over the line (running for the corner), while the defender has to not let him/her score on the indside of him/her. Scoring around the outside is not bad. 2. Add a 2nd Attacker.This forces the defender when to make a decision to drift onto the outside attacker. If the defender pushes to ealry they score on the inside. Too late they score on the outside (Not the worst outcome). 3. Drop Out Touch. (Drift Focus) This game is a normal game of touch rugby, however whenever the attacker is touched the defender who touched him/her must run back too the try line and stay there until play has broken down.

Groups of 4 and two groups of defenders with contact pads. 1 ball per group. The ball carrier drives into the contact pads and presents ball backwards. Player 2 binds on, face to face and secures ball, player 3 binds on the other side to form a front row. All attackers bind together and drive defenders back 2-3 metres. Player 4 takes ball out at back and runs back around cone with players 1-3 in support. Repeat going back the other way until all attackers have practised each role.

Offensive players (blue), line out in one deep line while the defence (red) line up opposite in a straight line, slightly inside player from the player that they are marking. The offence will attempt to pass the ball across the line at speed. Defenders will move up to stop them but do not tackle, simply press. This teachers the attackers to pass under pressure, as they try to pass across the line without making any mistakes.

Tell your players the following....... There should be one group of 4 players between each cone on the four sides of the grid. The ball carrying group will advance - passing the ball down the line. When the ball gets to the last receiver in the attacking line, they will pass the ball to the first receiver in the next attacking line. Simple as that - they should keep going. All four groups must go, in any one cycle of attacks - a cycle is 4 attacks. Progression: Add in one or two defenders, have them work from side to side - rather than closing down space and - don't forget to change the defenders into attack after some time in defence.

They must use footwork to step to a side of the sausage and then give a pass before running into/past it.2. Passing Grid - Static Defenders Normal 3 man passing grid, however with sausages placed in the middle.Players run forward use footwork to beat the bag and give the pass back inside. (pass before the sausage).3. Passing Grid - Moving defenders. Same as above but instead of sausages, use moving defenders with bags.4. Passing Grid - Starting on corners.Groups of 4 start on each corner with 2 defenders in the middle. The attacking line must get around the corner and square up to beat the 2 defenders. At other end give to next group and start again. Continuous. 5. Final Game Groups of 3 on all sides of the grid, with 2 defenders in the middle.Continuous drill to score as many tries as possibel in 1 min. Focus on all skills above.

1. Defensive Organisation 4 Defenders line up on the the cones. When coach goes to pass the ball, when hands are on the defenders get line speed, making lots of noise and staying connected. After each rep the players move along the cones back trackign until the reach the end, this is continuous. 2. 3 v 2 In a 5mx5m grid, 3 attackers attack 2 defenders.Same focus on the defence on when to drift or make the takle on attackers.Lots of communcitaion and line speed is key. 3. Kick out touch- Reduced Defence. A defending player kicks the ball from the back of the pithc to attacking team. Attacking team has more players than defensive system to induce a counter attack situation. Players will learn to fill space with fewer numbers aswell as being a good attacking practice identifying space and overlaps.
