Purchasing a scrum cap

heymy name is kyle, im 18 from canada and im considering purchasing a scrum cap. ive locked for my school in grade 9 (4 years ago) but then our school quit its rugby program for guys so now im proping for my club team this year. back in grade 9, when anyone who wore scrum caps were considered "wussies" so everyone tackled them as much as they could but now that i play club rugby, i notice that almost everyone that has anything to do with the front 5 positions wears scrummy caps. i was wondering if there is anything "wussy" about scrummy caps? why do people wear them? (i mean, if almost everyone in the front 5 wears them, then i probably should too right?) also...do you have any recommendations for brand? barbarian, ccc...etcany feedback on this would be great. thankscheerskyle- submitted by email

My son's u16 team is suffering from a wheeling scrum.?

My son's u16 team is suffering from a wheeling scrum. The front row's height is 5'6 for the loosehead and hooker and 5'11 for the tighthead. Is this a contributary cause? My guess would be that their shoulders are not hitting squarely, causing an angle.

Hi, I'm required to coach the tight 5 to right wheel?

Hi, I'm required to coach the tight 5 to right wheel a scrum - yes, it's for an exam. I have researched it - including talking to forwards - and all of the sparse info out there describes unlawful techniques. I can make a stab at almost anything apart from this 'black art' as I have no references to use. Help!

Law 12 - the forward pass or t...

The law says that a forward pass is one "thrown forward" "in the direction of the opponents' goal line" Does that mean that, if the ball is passed and the receiver catches it NEARER to the opponents goal line than from where the ball was passed that the pass was forward? (Leaving to one side any other touches of the ball that might have taken place.) Maybe an example is better. Player 1 passes the ball sideways - releasing it on the 22 metre line. Player 2 (with no other player having touched the ball), running from well behind the 22 metre line, catches the ball when it has travelled sideways but the ball is now 20 metres from the opponents goal line (2 metres further forward from the place that the ball was passed). Is that a forward pass or throw forward? And if not, why not?

I am so pleased with all of the drills and advice on rugby. I am a player for my local club and we don't have a coach at the moment so I, as a senior player, am filling that gap. With your help, the team has been able to improve our skills.

What a fantastic tool. The Chalkboard and session tools make an unbelievable difference in making training plans in both time and organization. I will be instructing all of my assistant coaches that this tool must be used for all sessions during the season, so that we may build a club coaching resource library.

Wes Campbell Rugby Coach Canada
