I have thoroughly enjoyed using your site to help me with my coaching plans for my under 9's netball team.
Defending the Throw In. On the weekend, the opposition had a set play (on some occasions but not all the time). GK was throwing in. The GD, WD & C all gathered between the centre and the 1/3rd line, closer to the 1/3rd line. Each of them broke at different times. 1st GD leading left, then WD leding right and C down the middle. This week if they do that again, I think I will not have my GA/WA/C next to the girls, but 4-6 ft in front of them waiting for the leads on the angle to watch the leads and the throw in. Any other suggestions? we play that team again this week!!
when i asked my team (13 yr olds) what they thought they need to improve on, one of their answers was communication. what is an easy way to teach them to communicate with each other during the game?
Does anyone have any good drills for defending an over head feed into the circle?
Hi I have a team of 9/10year olds, when the ball is coming through the court and they are on defence, they have started chasing their partners and not watching the ball. At some stages today, they had their backs to ball, and no idea where the ball is? Any good drills out there, that work on marking the partner, but watching where the ball is too? Looking for those intercepts. They have started facing their partners, Thanks.
Does anyone know a drill which will help to improve your balance when defending the shot?
How would I go about teaching a really short girl basic defence? I need to put her in WD most games and she needs to know how to intercept.
I'm coaching u/10's and have an excellent A team, but the B team have learners who haven't been playing netball so long. Does anyone have one or two basic activities, easy to understand (for them) which I can drill them with for passing, defending and getting free, as well as something for the shooters. They are always all over the place (we do practice channels) and really struggle to get free - they run a bit and then just stop to wait for the ball. Anything, even just some advice would be appreciated! :)
My team has girls aged 11 and 12 and I have always taught them one on one defending. Are they too young to teach switching to?
i would like to know how i can advise my team to effectively handle taller opponents if them are short.
number of ways to mark a shooter in the circle
a parent asked me to explain what ballside meant. Obviously easier to demonstrate, but wondering what your answer would be, without giving too many instructions thanks
should you face the ball or the attacker when defending?
Hi, I just strated Netball, and my couch says I am skilled for a newbie. Though we have a game tommorow and I realised that becuse of the BYE last week my defences has become shabby any tips. (my info is that i play U13 and is 12 truning 13)
Hi,I'm 12 and a senior netball player for my school team. I am learning how to umpire but my teacher is giving me a hard time saying I'm not a good umpire and that the other girls have done years of practice of umpiring unlike me. I just have to ask what's obstruction? I get all the umpire rules but obstruction. Please help as I am umpiring in a few days for a netball game and it's the first game I am umpiring.
drinks to practice positioning and footwork to defend a holding shooter
what is a good drill to do for defending and scoring
I play school and state netball as a GK/GD, when my other player is defending the GS or GA, I hold on to her defenders leg/hand for an extra lean. Because I'm quite larger and taller than most girls and already have a pretty good lean, when I ask my defender to hold me so that i am closer to deflecting the shot, she uses two of her hands and her body strength to hold me. My coach told me not to do this because she believed I wasn't allowing myself nor my other player to get an intercept or rebound, even though we had gotten most rebounds and had gotten a few intercepts with this technique. Is this an disadvantage or advantage to us?
