How would I go about teaching a really short girl basic defence? I need to put her in WD most games and she needs to know how to intercept.
there isa figure of 8 drill where 2 players face each other about 4-5m apart and pass in a predictable and rythmic manner (so they cant be changing the speed they pass...it has to be the same the whole time, and start quite slowly at first) and the worker starts behind one of the players and runs to be in front and take an intercept and then contines on the diagonal between the two players towards the second player and run behind and time the run to get the intercept and keep running the figure of 8 until they are confidently getting the timing and intercepting correct. slowly increase the speed of the passes. also teach her getting her feet quickly from beside her player to 3ft in front for defence of the pass. that is where i would start. once she is getting that down pat then move onto another skill, and slowly build her skills up.

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
