4 Player Passing

Start the game by volleying the ball over the net to the player at the back of court. They then overhand pass the ball to the player at the net who sets the ball up for the player to move forward and play the ball over the net by making a spike approach and tipping the ball to the back court defender. This then is repeated for a set number, length of time or can be made competitive.

The person on the side of the mats feeds the ball to the two players opposite who communicate and pass the ball to the net for the ball to be set up for an attacking one handed tip to the mat that has not been occupied by the feeder. This means that the attacking player needs to work on creating a good field of vision and observe where the feeder has moved to.

Two on two play. The court is narrowed and players are only allowed to tip the ball on the other side (spike forbidden).

Players work in pairs setting the ball to one another first time. This can be done with players facing each other without a net or with one player on each side of the net. Player 1 sets the ball across to player 2 who sets the ball back again. Ensure passes have enough height on them to allow the rally to continue smoothly.

The first player starts the game with a throw over the net. The two players on the other side of the net communicate - with one moving towards the net and the other who volleys the ball. The player that has moved to the net faces their partner who passes the ball to them with a high pass from a volley position with the ball above their forehead. The person at the net volleys the ball for their partner who is about 2 metres away from the net facing them with the hand up nearest the net pointing where they want the next high pass to be placed. The player then passes the ball high to the area pointed at and that player moves in, and volleys the ball over the net. Then both players return to a side by side playing position ready to play defence and start the drill again.

The dig is a defensive shot played when the ball is driven hard towards the waist or below of a player.The ball has a lot of energy and pace so the defender does not need to put energy into the ball like a forearm pass, but ensure that they are still when the attacker contacts the ball and they contact their defense with their forearms and angle the ball upwards to a target of the middle of court.

My daughter is in 8th grade an...

My daughter is in 8th grade and has made the team this year as she did last. We have a new coach this year who doesn't allow the girls to use their knee pads. What is the purpose of this?   Does it help at all with development of the sport?  It seems sadistic to me and I can't understand how causing the girls pain will help them to "dig" a ball or encourage them to dive for anything. Thank you
