Volleyball: Team Passing - Attacking One Handed Tip

Player 1 pushes a high ball for player 2 to defensive dig back to Player 1.

2 Player First time set drill. Player passes the ball above head height to one another, waiting for the coach's whistle. Upon hearing the whistle the players must set to each other, then duck under the net and continue to set to each other.

Receiver faces three players who one after another spikes the ball for it to be digged. Change roles after the player has faced 3 spikes from each player.

One server stands behind the opponent's baseline and two setters stand in Zone 2 and 3. The receiver is supposed to underhand pass the served ball to the setters alternately.

2 vs 2 The first player starts the game with a throw over the net. The two players on the other side of the net communicate and one catches the ball, the other moves to the net and faces their partner who passes the ball to them with a high pass from a volley position with the ball above their forehead. The person at the net holds the ball in a volley position and keeps hold of the ball until their partner is about 2 metres away from the net, facing them with the hand up, nearest the net pointing where they want the next high pass to be placed. The players should then pass the ball high to the area pointed at and that player moves in, catches and plays the ball over the net. Both players return to a side by side playing position ready to play defence.

A 3 player drill which can be used for a variety of passing Player 1 Overhead passes to player 2, who passes to player 3. Player 3 then defensive digs back to player 1.

In fours have two players on one side, the other two on the other side of the net. All of them make one team. Have the players on either side of the net face each other, with one player standing at the net, the other on the attack line. Player 1 then passes the ball to player 2 (who is standing nearest to the baseline on the opposite side of the net) Player 2 then passes to player 3 (who is standing facing player 2 on his/her side of the net). Player 3 then returns the ball back to player 2, who in turn passes back over the net to player 1. At this point player 2 and 3 swap positions. Player 1 then passes to player 4 (who is standing facing player 1 on his/her side of the net). Player 4 then returns the passes the ball back to player 1, who in turn passes back over the net to the player standing on the attack line.At this point player 1 and 4 swap positions

Start the game by volleying the ball over the net to the player at the back of court. They then overhand pass the ball to the player at the net who sets the ball up for the player to move forward and play the ball over the net by making a spike approach and tipping the ball to the back court defender . This then is repeated for a set number, length of time or can be made competitive.

Start with the ball with one of the outside players who volleys the ball to the middle player they volley it back to the outside player who then volleys over the two middle players to the outside player on the opposite side and repeat. This exercise is for players to be able to control the ball over differing distances. Again this can either be measured by time or number of good volleys.

Working in 4's with the final player throwing the ball back to the feeder under the net. Once the drill starts the setter passes the ball to a target player at the net. The net player then sets the ball for the wide player who receives it and then returns the ball ready for the drill to start again. This drill can be measured in time or good repetitions.

In pairs the players face each other, around 6metres apart. Player 1 throws the ball to their partner accurately so the receiver does not have to move to reach the ball. Player 2 then underhand passes the ball back to their partner accurately.

Players work in pairs with a ball between them. The player starting with the ball spikes it to their partner who needs to get down and did the ball back to the spiker, who should easily be able to catch it. The receiving is trying to pass as accurately as possible.

1) In pairs the players stand facing each other on opposite sides of the court with one ball between them. 2) Player 1 then underhand throws the ball above his/her head, turns 180 degrees to face the opposite direction, and passes the ball to their partner. 3) Player 2 catches the ball and repeats step 2. 4) Repeat steps 2 and 3 for a set time.

Players stand in pairs with a ball between them and are required to receive the ball from high up, let it bounce, and then underhand the pass to the player opposite them who does the same.
