Sportplan rugby has played a large role in my team's love for the game!
I need ideas for fun team building activities and any fun games to help towards team building. Has anyone got any ideas on what to do? Anything to spice up rugby training sessions in the dark, cold winter nights.
Hi IRBcoaching. im a 21 year of male playing lock for a midland 2 rugby team. im after some gym training tips? want to kno how many times i should be training per week in the gym and how to train in the gym.

How to begin coaching when the sport is not popular and many of player candidates are not familiar with rugby ? What is key of initiation ? How to start from white paper ?
I am curently helping coach an U14 team, my focus being on forward play and conditioning. As a general rule, for conditioning I only get the lads to work against body weight for resistance training. Some players (and parent?)are eager to get into the gym and start to use weights as means of resistance. Obviously at this age the level of physical maturity of players is vast, boys to men, hence each individual must be assessed. I have done some reseaech which would indicate that the use of weights for 14-15 year old is to be encouraged (Irish RFU), but I am keen not to get the lads into the gym to early. Does any one have and ideas on this subject or can point me to any research to support either idea.
Why is it important to get players to score the try when completing a handling/running drill?
Are you better off training 1 night a week or training multiple nights a week as a U10,u11 team.
We have a large squad and need a transparent way to assess our players to justify the team selection - does anyone know of, or use an assessment tool to assess skills in this age group?
At u13 age group is it good to be playing a game every weekend or should it be staggered with training?
Hi im a first time coach and is still getting the hang of how the technical details of the game works the back line is my department and whould like any help i can get to know what drills to do and anything helpfull in the backline im currently coaching for the under 9 and 10
Does anyone have a definitive answer to this question%3A can I coach basic tackling skills to U8s now, in preparation for next season, without falling foul of any RFU rules or regulations? Hugo
Strength and speed training for U11s....thoughts?! Way are people's thoughts on 10/11 year olds doing strength/speed training? I'm guessing that many will disagree with it and say that kids should be learning skills, getting match practice and enjoying themselves, rather than getting bogged down with this kind of training. I'm also guessing that there's a school of thought that children are too physically immature to be putting extra strain on joints etc. If there's anyone out there that knows of any evidence for, or against, I'd be really grateful. I coach a team with a number of (in my opinion!) quite talented players. At least one of them is somewhat let down by his lack of speed and a lack of strength. Should I let them concentrate on learning, and leave the speed/strength training until they're a few years older, or does anyone have any advice on what they could be doing now? Thanks!
I have a new team of high school girls who exceeded expectations but have lost their confidence after a weekend of loses at a 7's tournament. How do I rebuild their morale so they can get back on track?
I have just started helping our head coach with under12's team. He wants to retire and has put me forward to be head coach next season. I am a little worried on how i should aproach training with the boys, going to a full 15 a side team on a full pitch. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I am trying to plan winter training sessions and am interested to know what kinds of drills and workouts that have worked best?
Has anyone got any ideas regarding exercises or training programs I can give my senior team to do while we are on the Christmas break as we've got a game first week back in January. I don't want them to loose too much fitness over the Christmas time.
I have a number of my players (U11 moving to U12) who are asking about how to get faster....does anyone have a speed/sprinting training program that I can use for this age of players? I want to make it fun but also get impact by next season. Cheers!
I enjoyed the coaching guide created for 15s that contained practice schedules and progressive training... is there one available for 7s team training as well?
At u10s level how many training sessions are acceptable in a week period with a game on a sunday. we currently use Wednesday 1hr session, Friday 1hr session and game sunday is this too much for under 10s even tho they enjoy every session and are improving and have no complaints.?
my club has a problem with the seniors. Numbers at training are low every week, I know there is not a quick solution so how can i create a good culture of training ?
in more ways than one
World Rugby has reportedly conceded Aaron Smith's disallowed try in the World Cup final should have stood.
