Dribbling duel

One player dribbles while their partner tries to get the ball from them. To start with players should only be shadowing one another - not actively trying to tackle the ball. Once players have become more confident at dribbling and shadowing you can then allow the defender to try and win the ball.

Fast Break - Defence into attack

Have a line of attacking players all with a ball each standing on both sides of the court. Inside the 9m line will be two defenders, one on each side. The drill starts with the first attacker running at goal and shooting on goal. The defenders are allowed to obstruct the shot but not tackle. Once the ball is in the hands of the keeper they should throw it out to the defender who is making a fast break-away run up the court. After running to the half-way line the defender joins the back of the queue, the attacking player becomes the next defender and the drill begins again on the other side of the court.

Goal throws to the upfield player

Attacking player 1 runs with the ball to the outside of the 9m semi-circle and throws at the goal. The defender must only obstruct the shot, not make a tackle, to put the attacker under pressure. The goalkeeper must then get the ball under control and pass past the obstructing defenders to the breaking defender who has just made the run. The session then continues on the other side of the court.

No pass to Green

The first player waiting in the line passes to blue one on the side of the court and moves forward to receive the return pass. At this point dependin on where the blue player has received the pass the red defenders should communicate and decide which of them is best placed to come out and defend against the oncoming attacker. The 'spare' defender should position themsleves beside the green player, ready to intercept the pass from the attacking player.

In possion pass to other players if not try to get the ball. - 1 point is scored when the defenders touch a player in possession of the ball (attackers must pass very quickly)- change after 2 minutes - ask for specific pass : bounce pass. both hands etc.- play the game without dribbling.

Passing Obstruction

Blue 1, 2 and 3 throw, bounce and roll the ball at goal. The keeper should react as quickly as possible to the incoming ball, gather it up and then side-step/ move forwards (only one step) in order to throw the ball up field to player 4. Player 4 must catch the ball and then return it to one of the players without a ball to restart the drill.

Standing at a distance from the cones (increase/ decrease distance dependant on players' ages) players take it in turns to throw and aim at the cones. Two teams:Aim of the game is to get to 10 successful consecutive passes in a row. The other team tries to touch the player in possession OR get the ball and start their own 10 passes.
