Attacking player 1 runs with the ball to the outside of the 9m semi-circle and throws at the goal. The defender must only obstruct the shot, not make a tackle, to put the attacker under pressure.
The goalkeeper must then get the ball under control and pass past the obstructing defenders to the breaking defender who has just made the run.
The session then continues on the other side of the court.
As this session progresses increase the role of the defender, gradually getting them to put more and more pressure on the goalkeeper's throw.
To progress within this drill once the keeper has received the ball from the running player they can start to dictate which red player makes the run by shouting 'left' or 'right' before playing the pass.
