Sharon Garner Coach, England

DESCRIPTION

A classic movement drill with a plethora of applications; here we look at ensuring we have the basics in place to be able to make a good decision on the next pass/movement. Groups of 3 with 1 ball Attacking player in the middle drives to post with ball for a pass, then turms to pass to the opposite post. Repeat x 10 Start with no further instruction Question then ask them to repeat considering: mix up the direction of the turn mix up the type and timing of the feed consider pace and movement change (type and direction) improve 'flow' of the ball so player's body becomes part of the movement of it (feet, hips, head turn and send it onwards) Progression The opposite feeder (without ball) can now decide to make a cross over their chest with their arms indicating not to throw the ball. In this case the attacking player has to reset back, retreat/clear and then drive again Feeders shouldn't cross move than twice in a row and the orginal feeder can't cross if they are going to be used as the reset.

COACHING POINTS

Players can easily let this drift into a pattern of movement with little consideration, so pick up the detail to keep their minds fcussed. The drive is at a pace! It should be decernible from the rest of the movement; it is a signal to the feeder where and when to deliver the ball. Feet under the body at all times - no leping or lunging - to enable a balanced landing and more accurate onwards pass Hand(s) firmly around the ball to catch. Head zips around to sight as soon as possible - the rest of the body will normally follow ;-) Turn (in the air) fully so toes are pointing down the court towards the next target for the onwards pass.
