Attacking rebound drill

Players toss the ball up on the backboard for themselves to then catch on the rebound. After catching the rebound players should go back up and this time try to score. Lastly players collect their ball and pass it to the next player.

Dribble Shiled Drive

Dribble the ball shielding it with a half spin. Then drive through the left shoulder into vacant space.

Faking the Defender

The attacker draws the defender to steal the ball. As the defender commits to the steal, the attacker steps away from the defender and drives forward

Footwork and Movement

Leave them standing

Players on the left start with a ball each. Going one player at a time they dribble out into the centre of the court where they meet the defender. The defender should prevent them from moving across the court. Before they get within arm's reach of the defender the attacking player should drive into the key where they have a shot.

Basic Ball Handling

Pass and Lay up Drill

Player 1 passes to Player 2, who he then loops. Player 2 bounce passes to Player 1, who drives towards the basket and completes a sucessful layup.

Push them back and shoot

The defender (red player 1) rolls the ball out for the attacker to pick up and then play a 1 v 1 against them. The rules of the practice are that the attacker is only allowed three attacking dribbles before the point is dead.

Make the rebound, drive wide from under the basket, and make a pass down-court.

V Cut high - with change of pace

Player on top of the perimeter is a passer and player on the side is a cutter. The cutter runs towards the key until on foot is inside the key then they change direction and move towards the ball. When they are free they must signal for the ball with their outside hand. Once they receive the ball they can then square up towards the basket and go for a shot or drive for a lay up.

Set up: 2 balls, 2 lines of players behind hoop on baseline.Player drives around and out to recieve a pass from the opposite line and puts a shot up. Ball gets passed to line on opposite side driven from. Progression: Drive wider and shoot or lay up.

High Post-Drive/Finish Footwor...

The player will flash up to the high post. From the high post the player will square up to the basket, sweep the ball to the left side and attack 1 bounce to finish with a left hand lay-up.

Close-out baseline drive Shoot...

The defensive player will pass the ball to the offensive player. The defensive player will run towards the offensive player and close-out by chopping their feet. Once the defensive player has closed out, the offensive player will dribble towards the baseline for a jump shot. The defensive player will stay with the offensive player and challenge the jump shot.

Run, Fake, Pass and Shoot Shoo...

Player 1 passes to player 2 and makes a break forwards before usinga body fake to get free. After the fake the player then accelerates to the elbow of the free throw line where they receive the ball, shoots and if necessary follow up with a rebound shot. Player 1 then passes to player 2 who throws the ball to the next player in line before joining the back of the queue. Player 1 replaces player 2 and the drill continues.

2v2 Help Defence drill Defense...

Set players up as shown in video clip. The baseline offensive player will drive towards the basket. The help defender will come over and stop the drive. The player with the ball will pass to the other offensive player. The receiver of the pass will shoot the ball. The defensive player will sprint out and challenge the shot.

Dribble and Shoot Shooting - B...

Dribble the ball all the time the ball is in possession. Start in the guard position, off center in the key. In a stationary position while on the dribble, stutter step towards a direct drive to the basket for a power move. Alternate the direction of the dribble drive each time you return to the top of the key. Do 10 shots going in each direction.

Throw the ball forwards with a bit of backspin so that you can catch the ball after it has bounced, to simulate a pass.Fake left.Drive back and right into space to make the jump shot.

Defending a dribble Defense - ...

Force the dribble and control the ball handler. Knees bent, back bent, feet wide and hands down and outwards. Don't let ball handler get past. Place feet wide apart so the player cannot go past you. Go two steps back and the side step to cut off the ball handler. Stay an arms length gap apart from ball carrier. Look wide and intimidating. Alternate which foot is dropped first. Use body to control the direction the ball carrier can move into. Do this drill ten times.

As feet are stamped, head and shoulders should be moved quickly. As the ball returns to the hand, direct drive past the defender. The fake will freeze the defender causing him to rock back on his heals.

Throw the ball out in front of yourself with a bit of back spin. Move to catch the ball at the top its bounce and then land with wide feet in a ready position - ready to pass or ready to push off and drive into a fast dribble!

Player 1 passes the ball inside the key to player 2 and follows their pass. Before they enter they key player 1 cuts out to receive the return pass from player 2. At this point player 1 should dribble towards the basket with the intention of scoring. However, as soon as player 2 passes the ball they are allowed to close down and put pressure on player 1. Once Player 1 has taken their shot player 2 should collect the ball and drive out of the area before joining the back of the attacking queue. Player 1 joins the back of the defending queue.

Start in the guard position 5 meters above the three-point line just off center at the top of the key. Spin back the ball as if receiving a pass from another guard. Meet the pass with a quick stop, drop step and drive through the elbow for the shot. Rebound the shot and dribble to the sideline, do a spin dribble and return to the key to execute the drill to the other side on the elbow.

Players and cones will be set up as shown in video clip. One offensive and one defensive player. The offence will dribble through the cones with the defence sliding keeping their head in line with the ball. Once they have gone through all the cones, the defensive player will retreat. The offensive player will dribble to 15 foot away from the basket and shoot the ball. The defensive player will contest the shot and then box out to get the rebound.
