Choke Tackle Progression

5 stage progression session. Bibs. Balls Cones. 1. Warm up - Wrestle One player with the ball trys to fight their hips away from the other play who fights to to keep his/her hips infront of the other player. 2. 50% Side --> Front Tackle Players start on oppsoite side of grid. Ball Carrier runs across while the defender makes a tall tackle, whist trying to get his hips in a front on position. Low to High hit, aiming for under the elbows or ball. 3. 2nd Defender introduced. Double team tackle. Inside player hits low to high under elbow, keeping hips square. The second player aims for the ball and fights to keeps attacker off the ground. 4. Rugby Netball in 7m x7m grid. Attacking team tries to complete 8 passes while the defending team tries to complete a choke tackle on one of the attacking players. Turn over once a choke tackle has been successfully executed. 5. Contact Game Half pitch contact game, with defending team aiming to complete a choke tackle. Turn over when one is made.

Defender passes to the attacker who attempts to score against the defender within the grid. 3. 1v1 Tackle Channel Players line up in two lines adjacent to the coned area.Coach shouts go and the front two players run round their end to end up facing each other.The coach passes the ball to the attacker who runs at the defender, and the defender tries to take them down. 4. 2v2 Track and Tackle 10m wide channel, 2 attackers start with the ball while 2 defenders atart at the other end. when instructed the attackers attempt to score agaisnt them. Do continuous reps.

Rugby: Ruck Clear Out Between ...

2 people are on the tackle shields or 2 on each side about 5 metres apart facing each other, there is a ball carrier standing in the middle of the two defenders with one or two attackers. Ball carrier runs into defender/s and places the ball, the supporting player/s must clear away the defenders. Each attacker must have a go at hitting the defender and placing the ball.

Starting with their backs to one another, two players stand 5 metres apart and run off in opposite directions along one side of the 20 metre grid. At the corners of square each player cuts back into the grid and the player with the ball attempts to score by running with the ball into the far corner. The blue player's objective is to tackle them and prevent them from scoring.

1.Two players stand either side of a tackle tube (tackle tube on the floor 'stood up').The coach shouts go and the two players turn inwards to face each other and the tube.The players then get set in a low position before lifting the tube into the air.2.Three players. One in the middle faces forwards. One player either side holds a tackle tube.The coach shouts left or right (or a call to their discretion) for the middle player to turn to.The middle player and the teammate on that side lift the tackle tube into the air the same as the first drill.3.Three players. Two players set up in the set position either side of one tackle tube, while the other player is set on their own behind a tackle bag facing inwards.The player on the outside of the two runs quickly round their first bag, to join the player on their own.Together the players lift the tube into the air, as per the first two drills.

Groups of 3/41 Tackle Sausage.1 Tackle bag. 1. Tackle Bag conditioning.Players align 6m apart, one side with tackle sausage. Work for 1 min constantly tackling and carrying sausage back and forth with partners. 2. Tackle and Roll conditioning. Same as before but introduce roll after making the hit. Roll with bag to escpae collision area. then same as before, pick up the sausage and run.3. Add DefenderA 3rd player is introduced, holding Tackle bag who acts as a attacker clearing out the ruck. The Defender must bounce up and clear the tackle bag player coming over the ball, then same as before. 4. Tackle, Roll, Clear All 4 stages togther now, adding a roll in before clearing out the attakcing player with tackle bag.

This is a simply set up game designed to test players' ability to continuously make tackles, especially when fatigued.Each area should be about 10m long and 5m wide - 1 tackle tube required.Starting from one end, a player runs to the other end where the tube is standing up, and the player tackles the tube to the floor.That player must then pick the tube up and run back to the original position and place the tackle tube there, stood up.The other player in the pair runs from their end, and tackles the tube to the floor, before picking the tube up and carrying it back to thetheir end.Continue this for one minute.

3 v Tackle Bag and body Suit T...

3 attackers start at the beginning of the grid who will go up against the tackle bag first and then the person in the body suit second; these two should not stand next to each other unless you move on to the progression. At the coaches command the attackers will go into the tackle shield first with the ball carrier going to ground and the two supporters either both clearing out or one person clearing and the next picking up the ball and going into the next defender 5 metres behind who will be in a bodysuit. The ball carrier here will try to stay strong on his feet and offload to the two support runners or one of them will come in and rip the ball and offload to the support runner who will finish by crossing over the line.

Step 2 - 2 attackers nominate themselves to tackle the sauages. Step 3 - the 2 support players pick the ball up and try complete the 4v2 (tackling players need to bounce up of feet quickly)

Groups of 3.Progression.1. Wrestling Players link up, one arm under &amp; one arm over each shoulder. Players then pick a side to wrestle to, then give a count down and fight to force opposition on the side they chose to wrestle to.2. Tackle on Knees Each player takes turns to complete tackles on there knees. 3. You can make this fun and competitive by counting how many tackles a player completes in a certain amount of time.

Tackle Challenge Sevens - Rugb...

The exercise stand clockwise, with the first player going from the bottom left cone. The defender must tackle that player to the ground. As soon as that tackle is complete, the attacker quickly clears the area, and the defenders gets to their feet. The next attack goes right away. This pattern repeats, with each new attacker coming forward from a new cone, and then rejoining the back of the line on the opposite side. The idea is for the defender to be tested time after time, in quick succession. The ball carrier can try to evade contact. After 1 minute, change the defender.

Groups 6+ Cones.Balls1. Warm up - Non Contact.Players start on the corner of a square grid. They then in turn run to meet in the middle of the square. The Attacker side steps, while defender tries to get a shoulders on contact on the attacker. 2. Contact introduced - Attakcing Player Focus. Attacking player after being tackled must land on top of the ball. Then must release the ball, then fire up as quickly as possible to re-gather the ball and keep running. 3. Focus on the defender. After making a good tackle, with focus on body height, squeeze and foot in close, the defender must return to feet as quiclkly as possible to compete for the ball again.

Drill to practice making multiple tackles in a period of time.Set up a circle of 6 cones with a padman opposite each cone (between 2m and 5m away).Players starts on a cone in the centre of the drill (as pictured) and run forward to tackle the padman. On the coache's call they run forward to tackle the next padman, returning to the centre of the drill after completing the tackle and move clockwise to the next cone.The drill continues until the players have tackled each bagman or at the coaches discretion.

Ball 1. 1 v 2 - Shoulders on1 attacker must run in the middle of 2 defenders, in a small grid. the first defender performs a chop tackle.the second defder makes a chest hit, aiming to stop the offload. 2. 1 vs 3 - ball involved - full contact. In groups of 6, have 3 attackers 3 defenders. Attackers pass a ball along the line back and forth until whistle goes. Defenders in tackle suits, line up opposite the attackers, when whitle goes the attacker with the ball runs at the defence aiming at the gaps inbetween the defenders. the defenders come up as a line. The first defender (usually inside) makes a low chop tackle, while the other second defender aims for man and ball.
