Tennis: half court

2 teams two balls Players play a half court rally until one makes a mistake for the first point. The second ball then becomes live and should be played out by all 4 players for the second point.

Players are working in groups of three. Player 1 is the 'working' player and players 2 and 3 are feeding the ball. Player 1 must hit only forehands and must hit one shot inside out to player 3 and one shot inside in to player 2. Player 2 hits forehands line, player 3 hits backhands cross.

Purpose: Accurate hitting to a good length with clear targets. Non competitive rally feeding. Court is split into 2 half courts Player B rally feeds player A. "A" must aim his/her groundstrokes into the point scoring zone of the court. Rally for 3 minutes. Player "B" keeps the total score. (Good score is 100+) Players then swap places.

Player 1 is working in the full court and player 2 in half court, starting with the backhand corner. The coach (or player 3) feeds a very short ball/ dropshot that player 1 must chase down and push back deep into the corner where player 2 is waiting. Player 2 must then attempt to hit a winning topspin lob aggressively over player 1 who has moved to the net after playing the dropshot. Player 1 can try to chase down the lob if it goes over their head or smash/ volley it away into the backhand corner if the lob is not good enough. Players switch ends before repeating the drill to the other corner.

Players 1 and 2 stand opposite each other, close to the net, working in the half court service boxes. Players take it in turns to start the point by holding the ball on top of the net and then release it, letting it fall to whichever side it chooses. The ball can bounce once or be volleyed. The tram-lines are out and no topspin or pace must be used by either player. Players play first to 21 points.

Cones are set in the deep corner (ad side). The player serves from the ad side and moves to the net, and the coach feeds the ball to the ad side. The player hits backhand half volley deep cross court and takes proper position at the net.

Players are working cross-court from their backhand corners and have to hit a backhand slice off every single ball. They also have to slice the ball deeper than the service line and cannot dropshot or come to the net.If a player has to hit a forehand or a topspin backhand they lose the point straight away.Players must take it in turns to feed the ball in and the point is played out in this way in the half-court with the tramlines being out, first to 11 points.

<BR>The coach feeds the ball to team A, they then have to hit it into the target area cross court. <BR>-Player from team B hits down the line if possible, however if under pressure from the depth or pace of the shot,then player B should play cross court or down the middle.<BR>Team A are hitting mostly cross court.

Coach, 2 players, and a basket of tennis balls. Players 1 and 2 start off on the baseline, and each work on half a court. Coach feeds balls for the players to play deep forehand shots moving across the baseline, in their half of the court. Coach then feeds balls for the players to move back across the baseline, and play deep backhand shots. Drill continues until basket of balls runs out.

  Player 1 is working in the whole court and must hit 1 forehand cross-court, 1 forehand line, followed by 1 backhand cross-court finishing with 1 backhand line. Player 2 is working in the forehand corner and must hit 2 cross-court forehands. Player 3 is working in the backhand corner and must hit 2 cross-court backhands.  

Players line up in two lines half way down the court. The coach feeds the ball short over the net for a player to run diagonally across the court to play the ball down the line.

4 players A, B, C, and D. 4 discs or cones are placed half way between the service line and the service box on each side of the court. Player A rallys with player B, and C with D (hitting cross court). Each player hits a deep forehand beyond the disc. The aim of the drill is to keep the rally going, stepping outside the line of the ball to return to your partner.

The idea of the game is to get the feel of the court. All you have to do is cover the whole net with black bin liners so you cannot see the other side of the net. Play the rally out and try to anticipate where the ball is going land and get to know the court. Eventually play points and games to get a feel of the court.

<BR>-Both players have cones approx 2 meters in front of base line (depending on players skill level.<BR>-Players gain a point each time they hit between the cone and the base line. <BR>-One of the players has to stay on or inside the baseline. <BR>-With more advanced players both have to play on or inside the baseline.<BR>-First player to 11 points wins the game.<BR>-To make the drill easier it can be played on one half of the court and later progressed to full court. <BR>-The game can also be started with a second serve.

The court is marked out with cones into areas (e.g. red, amber and green). Players try to anticipate which area the ball is going to land in so that they can respond with the most appropriate tactical return. A buddie coach stands behind the player and tells them which shot they should play (ie. approach the net, lob etc.) depending on the area that they are hitting from i.e. where they are standing/ running on court as they hit the ball. Players will need to watch the body shape of the coach and the ball contact carefully to anticipate what type of shot is being hit and therefore where it is likely to land.

Coach feeds balls to the player at different areas of the court. Player has to hit 4 balls in a row to the specific zones: (1.deep deuce, 2.deep ad, 3.short deuce, 4.short ad).

Mark out continuations of the outside tram lines behind the court. Play out normal points but player can claim bonus points if the win the point after 'pushing' their opponent beyond the tram-lines.

Intention: Assess forehand technique whilst developing the principles of rallying. Players start on their various courts. Each of which has a designated score that is progressive (eg 5, 7, 9) and at the discretion of the coach. Where space is limited, courts can be divided in half or thirds to create stations. One player ('The Sender') starts each rally with an underarm throw to a target area on their partners side of the court, which is situated half way between their partner ('The receiver') and the net. The 'receiver', who is positioned roughly two racket lengths behind the target area, attempts to catch the ball after one bounce. The 'receiver' now becomes the 'sender' and attempts to throw the ball back, using an underarm action, to a target area on their partner’s side of the court, which is positioned roughly half way between their partner and the net. The pair must then continue to throw and catch the ball (after one bounce) using an underarm action until they achieve the score for their designated court/station. If the rally breaks down in any way, the pair must start the rally again from zero on the court/ station they are on. If the players successfully achieve the score for their designated court (or station), they progress upwards (one station) and 'Budge' the pair on the higher station down. If either of the pair lands the ball directly on the target area they automatically progress upwards (one station) and 'Budge' the pair on the higher station down. When a pair achieves the designated score on the highest (top) court they are awarded 1 'golden' point. When a pair successfully achieves a 'golden' point, they attempt another one until they are 'budged'. The game ends when a pair reaches a pre-set number of 'golden' points. Alternatively, the pair with the most 'golden' points at the end of a pre allocated period of time is the winner.

Play on a 1/2 court (so you can have two games going at the same time).2 players close to the net. Start the point from 1 player balancing the ball on the net and letting go. When the ball drops into the court it is allowed to bounce once.After this they play a volley rally over the net to try and win the point.

Player stays inside the court on the ad side.Player maintains rally with coach using only backhand down the line.Player can't move back behind the baseline.

Coach, 2 players, basket of balls. Coach feeds the ball to player 1 towards the centre of the baseline. Player 1 plays a forehand lob over player 2, who is stood on the T junction of the service box area, to land inside the court. Player 2 cannot leave the service box area, but can play the ball if they can reach it. Coach continues to feed another ball. Players rotate after 6 feeds.

The coach stands on the service line and rallies with the player, who is stood on the baseline. Everytime the player returns the ball, they move forward. Once at the net, they move backwards after every shot. The player executes groundstrokes behind the service line, and volleys inside the service line.

The coach feeds the ball to the backhand side and rises the racquet up. The player moves to the ball and hits backhand slice lob cross court. Coach's racquet is used as a point of reference for the player.

Good warm up to use between players. Stand close to the net on opposite sides and backhand slice the ball to each other.

Players start the drill by rallying cross-court from the backhand corners.Player 1 can choose to slice a backhand down the line at any time and the point is then live. Player 1 can choose to hit the slice as an approach, or simply as a change of direction/pace in the rally.Players can play first to 7 points before player 2 has a turn at being the slicing player.If a mistake is made before the slice has been hit, it is not counted and the score remains the same.Players can find the slice down the line a difficult shot to play, particularly if they are used to using 2 hands on their backhand. They should be reminded to turn their shoulders well and follow the line of the ball with their feet and body.Players should make sure that they are in a good position to play the down the line shot, and be aware that in doing so they will be changing the pace, spin, direction, and flight path of the ball.Take care on it!
