Tips fo newly trasitioned WA/WD/C
Hi! I was wondering if you could give me some tips and workouts to work on during the off-season. I recently switched from defence to WA/WD/C, and Iâm finding it quite hard to get the ball, especially as WA and C, where I feel like Iâm just running around helpless sometimes. For WD, Iâm also not really sure how to defend properly, especially since I play against a higher age group and most of the players are quite tall. Iâd really appreciate any advice or drills I can work on to improve my movement, getting free, passing, and defending!I really dont want to mess up this oppurtunity
Hi Ava, transitioning to WA, WD, and C can be challenging, but with the right drills, you'll definitely improve. Hereâs a plan to enhance your skills:
- Getting Free:
- Try the "Get Free for the Ball" session to work on dynamic movement and creating space. It will help you find gaps and make effective cuts to receive passes.
- Check out "Getting Free: Change of Pace and Direction Session" to practice changing your pace and angle to outmaneuver defenders.
- Sessions:
- 1 Get Free for the Ball
- 2 Getting Free - find the Space
- Passing and Movement:
- Improve your passing with the "Developing powerful and accurate passing" session. This will ensure your passes are sharp and precise.
- "Passing on the Move to Keep Possession" focuses on maintaining control while on the move.
- Sessions:
- 3 Developing powerful and accurate passing
- 4 Passing on the Move to Keep Possession
You can also use these sessions:
- Defending as WD:
- Engage in "Developing Shadow Defence to Force an Error". This will help you mark tall players effectively and apply pressure.
- "Centre Pass Defence" focuses on marking strategies during critical plays.
- Sessions:
- 5 Developing shadow defence to force an error
- 6 Centre Pass Defence
- Speed and Agility:
- The "Outwit your opponent with lightning speed and agility" session will boost your agility to help you perform quick directional changes and quicker sprints.
- Session:
- 6 Outwit your opponent with lightning speed and agility
By focusing on these areas, you'll enhance your skills on both ends of the court. Keep practicing, and remember to enjoy the game! Let me know if you need more help.
