Netball: Intercept and Recover for a GK

Have 2 Feeders (F1, F2) passing to each other about 5m apart. The defender will start to the side and slightly behind F2. F1 will pass the ball to F2 and the defender will go for the intercept. If they get it they pass back to F1 (if not F2 passes back to F1). The defender then runs back the way they came the whole way around the back of F2, to make a circle before intercepting the next. Challenge your defenders to get 6 intercepts of passes in a row.

Blue players 1 and 2 pass the ball to one another, attempting to make space for a straight pass to one of the white players At the same time green player 1 shadows the movement of the ball between the 2 Blue players and attempts to intercept pass to one of the white players.

Players in pairs with 1 ball between them. They have to keep possession of the ball by passing it around and running into spaces, whilst 1 or 2 catchers are nominated to try and intercept the balls. When a pair lose the ball, they move out of the area and those intercepting continue to do so until all balls have been intercepted OR a time limit is reached.

Get your players into two teams of 4/5/6, one team wears bibs. The aim of the game is to get as many clean intercpetions as possible within the third over 60 seconds. You count how many clean intercepts each team can get when they are defending over the course of the 60 seconds. Once a player intercepts the ball they must put the ball down on the ground for the attacking team to pick up and keep going. Change over teams once the 60 seconds are over (attackers become defenders and vice versa) and see which team can get the most interceptions.

Set up: 3 lines are set up in triangle formation, one ball. 3 feeders at the front with a defensive player behind. Ball is passed around the 3 front players. Feeder is at the front of each line with the intention to receive a pass from any two of the other lines. Player immediately behind the front person is to time an intercept from incoming pass. Once pass received from defender it can be passed to any other line and the same is repeated. Rotate through feeders and defenders.

The two blue players pass the ball between themselves quickly and accurately. Meanwhile the white players stands in the middle, watching the ball pass from left to right. When they are ready the white player should position themselves between the ball and its intended recipient to make the interception.

Get into a group of 4 with one ball Two players will be feeders and will stand approxiamtely 4-5 meters apart One player will be a static attacker  The other player will be a defender  The two feeders will simply pass the ball between them  The defender will be moving around the attacker maintaining an open body position  The defender will time their movement and go for the interception  The defender must get 4 successful interceptions before they can switch out

Set up a triangle with two players on each point. Players have to weave from the back to in front in order to receive the pass from the player to their right (ball travels in a clockwise direction). Once players have received the pass they then pass the ball to the front of the next point in the triangle for another player to weave and receive.

Players work in groups of 4. The feeder stands with the ball in front of the 3 other players. The two receiving players stand 5 meters away from the feeder and 2 meters apart. The defending player is only a few steps behind the receivers. As soon as the pass is made by the feeder the defender can make their move and try to intercept the ball before it reaches its intended target. The receivers are not allowed to move towards the pass. When the defender successfully intercepts the ball they can swap with the receiver who now becomes the defender.

Player 1 takes two steps in to finish with feet side by side. From this firm base, jump up to receive ball from player 2 who pushes it high above 1. One step back and repeat.

Two lines (Indian file) behind the centre transverse line facing the centre of the court. On the coach's whistle players drive out at a 45 degree angle, one player to right/one to left, pretending to intercept the centre pass which they were not able to intercept. Your players now pretend that the (imaginary) attacker now has ball. Defender turns to face attacker and implements 2nd stage defence (hands over ball to pressure pass). Your player then shadows the attacker along the sideline of the court before then rejoining the back of the line.
