Ensure the player's shooting arm has the elbow at approximately 90 degrees underneath the ball. The wrist should be cocked back underneath the ball. The non shooting hand should only be used as a guide to stabilise the ball.

Players should throw the ball in the air slightly ahead of themselves for them to step onto. As they catch the ball they should jump slightly. As they turn towards in mid-air towards where the basket is they should raise the ball above their head so that when they land they are ready to shoot.

Footwork is always important in executing a correct lay up shot. Shooting from the right side, the player should lead off their left foot and reach up to the basket extending right arm up towards basket at the same time as keeping the right knee bent to aid lift. Aim to place the ball on the backboard so that it rebounds back into the basket.

The player holds the ball and walks towards the basket. The player then (right handed player) plants their left foot, bends their right foot forward, and shoots the ball with the right hand. Distance should be 1 step away.

Same as stage 1 only the player jogs and jumps from their left foot and shoots.

The player walks towards the key and stops. Player put their left foot in front and on signal goes two steps and shoots (two steps ? right and after left and jump up)

same as stage 3, only use one bounce with the strong hand.

1 player stands near the key, another player passes the ball to him/her and receiver put the ball on his/her right hand to the side. Player who passed the ball runs and before taking the ball from the hand needs to plant the left foot on the floor and after collecting the ball he/she execute a lay up shot.

The player must do the lay up shot with dribbling from the 3 point line

This is the first step to teaching a lay -up. Using the correct shooting teachnique players must aim to hit the top corner of the little black square on the backboard. If they are standing on the right side, this will be the right corner, on the left, the left corner.

This is the 2nd step to teaching a lay up. From the right side (as in the example) player takes one step forward with their left foot and then drives the right knee up (as if their elbow and knee were attached with a piece of string) to finish the lay up they aim for the little black square on the backboard, as in step one.

The third step to teaching a lay up. From the right side the player takes a step with their right foot and then continues with step 2 followed by step one. On the left side, it should be one step with the left, then the right.

The idea of this is to get the player to perform the correct footwork for the lay up without having to worry about the dribble. One player stands to the side, holding the ball out for the player to take. (for the right hand side) The shooter runs towards the ball, as they take the ball, they should beginning their first step with their right foot, they then take the second step onto their left and shoot as per lay up technique.

To perfect the set shot let's start with one hand. The hand should start cocked back, with the ball slightly in front of you. As you shoot bend your knees, spring up and unfold your arm so that it straightens and flick your wrist to put back spin on the shot. You should finish up on your toes.

With your knees bent and your back bent to 20 degrees, drop step then turn, bounce the ball then chin the ball up to the power box and being square to the board, shoot. Do twenty of these then move to the other side and do the same thing. If you are not doing every aspect of the move correctly then do each part of the move more slowly. Form and technique then speed up the move and work on quickness.

To perfect the set shot let's start without the basket. The hand should start cocked back, with the ball slightly in front of you. As you shoot bend your knees, spring up and unfold your arm so that it straightens and flick your wrist to put back spin on the shot. You should finish up on your toes.
