Community | Intercept 5 (on court)

Sharon Baker Coach, England

DESCRIPTION

In groups of 5, 2 attackers, a feeder and a defending player. Feeder sends the pass to either attacking player. Start with that attacking player remaining static. The defending player comes out from behind for the intercept. Whoever recieved that first pass (the attacking player if the defending player has missed, or the defending player with a successful intercept) send the pass back to the feeder. The attacking player will then make a srong movement/drive towards the top of the circle. The feeder sends a lift ball in that direction. The defending player looks to intercept. Progression: increase the intensity of the attacking player movement.

COACHING POINTS

Defending player has to be dogged in their efforts in this drill. Always taking feet with them, under the body, ready to adjust and recover and go again. Run all the way to the ball, no leaping, lunging or flying through the air. Use of arms for momentum to run then the reach to pull that ball in early.
