DESCRIPTION

Working the length of the court, half the width. Set up in pairs either end using opposite sides. With odd number of players, they partner up as someone finishes, so partnerships should be continuously rotating too.

  • Player without the ball drives wide, to cut back in to receive the ball on the straight line.
  • The player who has just passed the ball, then repeats the same, creating width before driving in.

Progression: Cut Back

  • Moving player drives pass the straight line, pushes off to cut back on again to receive ball on the straight line.

COACHING POINTS

  • Looking for players to pass and move straightaway
  • Creating width to give better angle to drive in
  • Landing balanced and looking down the court
  • Patience to wait for player to be driving ahead

With Progression:

  • It’s even more important now that the player moves quickly after releasing the ball to give time to drive through and back!
  • Sharp turn of head and hips for quick change in direction
  • Feet always under body
  • Still looking to gain width – don’t let them get too narrow because of the extra move
