First Volley Down The Line With A Crosscourt Pass

Approcher moves forward and plays backhand volley down the line whole passer trys to pass cross court. Volleyer must cover the cross court area.

Players line up on backhand doubles alley and executes forehands on the run down the line. Opponent moves off from centre and plays next shot crosscourt and plays out the point

Player position on backhand corner and moves out to play wide ball on the run and plays it crosscourt. Opposite player moves out and play crosscourt. Both player play the point out.

Crosscourt theory Rally Drills...

Purpose:Teaches players when to keep ball in the same direction and when to change and that players need to recover position towards centre of court. Players rally 4 balls crosscourt from either corner. Then the point is "live". Play to 11 points

Tennis: Cross-court rally game...

Players get into pairs. Each pair takes on another pair in a cross court competition. Players take it in turns to hit the ball deep into the coned area. Every time a ball is hit short the receiving player can hit a winner down the line to score a point. The players who hit the short ball can try to recover and return the down the line winner. If they manage to return the shot they do not lose a point. Next rally starts again.

Set up cones: 2 big steps in from the baseline and one from the sideline.2 players rally crosscourt on each court (first forehand then backhand), aiming to hit the cones. If you have one court and a group of Players then get Players to hit one shot and then have the next Player run in to return the next shot. Rotate in this way continuously. Rules:The first person to hit the cone gets to set a forfeit to the rest of the group.

Player A rallys with player B, and C with D (hitting cross court). Each player hits a deep forehand beyond the disc. Player A picks the right moment to surprise the opponent and hits the drop shot down the line.Drill specifications:1 minute and switch4 players can work on forehands and backhands at the same time so 1 minute periods for switching are appropriate. Waiting players can perform some footwork exercises on the ladder to keep the feet active or they can imitate drop shot to get more comfortable with disguising the shot and changing the grip right before the point of contact.

The coach then feeds the next ball on the players deuce side service line. The player moves foreward and returns using a forehand cross court short to the corner of the deuce side. Player then returns back to the centre of the baseline. Coach then feeds the third ball a few feet beyond the net. Players moves to meet it and agins, using a forehand cross court shot, returns the ball beteen the cones set up on the cross court shot side.

Coach should explain to players that they have to be on the same side where they hit the ball. This rule is crucial at the net because player has to cover first down the line passing shot (down the line crosses the net faster than cross court).
