Netball: netball positions

I am coaching 9 and 10 year old girls who have played little or no netball to date. Am I best to rotate their positions so they can experience them all or keep them in the same place for a while until they get used to it?

How do you teach positions in netball?

Hi, I am coaching a group of 10yr old girls who majority have never played netball before. Am I better to rotate them in positions or let them get use to the ones that I allocate them too.. Also what are some good drills that I can teach them Defence or Attack... I have taught them the basics of passing, shooting but need help on alot of other drills... We only have training once a week in which I find hard because I believe they need more training days and we only have 2 training sessions to go till the season starts. Could you please give me some helpful ideas to help my girls understand netball and how to play netball without me having to put the pressure on them like as if I was coaching under 16s or something...

I have found that my players worked well as a group and also really enjoyed a Quiz about Netball (both rules and history of netball in general)but I have run out of questions, I usually only finish our training sessions with one question for each member of our team and use any the following week that they got wrong so they are learning at the same time. If you have any ideas please let me know as I have searched the web and every other resource I can find, Some of the questions I have used are How many seconds can you hold the ball? How far away do you need to be before arms go up to defend? How is a short pass measured? Where does a ball need to be touched first after a centre pass? Name 2 examples of Good spartsmanship? Name the 7 Positions in a Netball Game How many players on a Netball court during a Game? (trick question, usually andswered with 7, keeps them on their toes) In which Country did netball begin? What is the Name of the Australian Netball Team? What time do we turn up for a Game on Saturdays? If you land on 2 feet while catching the ball, which foot can you pivot on? How to easily swap girls positions for spring netball comp - 9 girls on team

How do I approach a training after a bad loss due to shots? They are 10 year olds and the team played well but due to only 20% of goals going through the hoop the score didn't reflect the closeness of the game. Ta.

What is the best way to teach the positions to 8 year old first time players?

Hi everyone - I'm relatively new to coaching. I look after 11 and 12 year olds who are very agile, very good at catching and passing but they herd like sheep. What are your experiences with this and what are the best exercises to get them thinking about where they need to be on court. Your help appreciated. Thanks

My team of year 4s have been playing together for 2 years, some players are in their third season. They have mixed natural talents but they are progressing well, listen at training and they all try their best to putting into practice what they have learned at training on game day. After a terrible first season when they did not win a single game, they have progressed into winning a few games this season, and bar one game have been competitive against their opposition every week (which is all you can ask for, eh?)All bar one girl. She rarely turns up to training, her parents tell me she is unwell each week. On game days she arrives only a few minutes before the game and when it is raining or she is playing a position she doesn't like, she either doesn't try at all or even sometimes wanders off the court half way though a quarter! My honest thought is that her (and her parents) are letting the rest of the team down, by not coming to training she is not learning the new skills and then on game day she doesn't seem to be enthused anyway. The frustrating thing is that when she does try, when she does turn up to training for a few weeks in a row, she is actually a decent player!So my question is: do I keep her in the general team rotation (when she has to play a key position there is a definite hole) or do I 'punish' her for not coming to training by playing her in less key positions and having her take more off-court time than all the other girls who are trying? The other girls are starting to notice and ask "Why"...any words of wisdom? They all go to school together, apparently she is the same in class.....

Would like visual resource of netball positions and their areas on court

We are playing summer comp (13 yr old girls). We have one shooter with a broken finger, and usually one other is injured or sick each week leaving us weekly with 5 players only. Which 2 positions do I not fill? Another coach told me WA and WD but I feel it just gives us both a weak attacking and a week defending team. I'm now thinking of putting the girls in attack only (GS GA WA C) with one girl in defence- GD ( and our centre covering the WD position from the other teams centre pass) This way we increase our chances of scoring from our own centre pass and still have someone defending their GA and WA from their centre pass in the hope of a intercept. I have began coaching Under 9's this season, we have played 3 games and I have kept the girls mostly in the same positions as my plan was to spend a few weeks in an Attacking Position, then a few in a defending position and then say the last 5 games in the area you are best at and enjoy the most. I was planning to change positions for this Saturdays game, but training has been cancelled due to bad weather. My question is, do I change their positions on game day with limited time to do any sort of game plan etc or do I just keep the same as the past 3 games? I know there is no right or wrong however I am interested in your opinions.
