In this session we look at punching out and peripheral vision. The key themes here are to get your players making strong deliberate movements to fake away from their marker and be fully aware of the players around them, so they can quickly pick out the pass and shift play.
These drills will test your players' as they try to beat their previous performances and meet the loose ball as quickly as possible - using quick, short steps to get to the ball and then scanning using their peripheral vision to weigh up their options and pick out the best pass!
Sportplan Tip:
By using dynamic words such as punching you can look to reinforce the speed and tenacity your players will need to use to burst away from their marker - this isn't just a little step left or right but a really hard deliberate motion to trick your marker.

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
