This drill works on players being aware of where the space is on court, avoiding crowding certain areas of the court, preliminary movements and driving hard into spaces that teammates have created for them. Three players per third. Players need to move to balance their third as quickly as possible, to ensure they have a player in each of the three channels. Progression: Advanced players can also move between the channels and continue to balance up the channels while the ball is still yet to arrive at their third. To advance the drill further, or for teams with more than 10 players, add defenders into some/all of the thirds.
Ensure players are completing preliminary movements well in advance of the ball arriving at their third. Encourage players to use all the space within their third, particularly for their preliminary moves. Also stress the importance of good passing and skill execution.
