Defending High and Wide (2)

I found this service to be excellent and it was of great help when...
Jo, Netball Coach

DESCRIPTION

  • 2 feeders, 2 attackers, 2 defenders
  • Only 1 attacking player and one defending player in each area.
  • Attacking players looking for 10 consecutive successful passes. They can use either feeder or each other.
  • Defenders looking to dictate movement of attackers through body angles and movement.
  • Added dimension of working as a unit, so recognising also where your other defender has their player as a cue to where to move your own player.
  • If all 10 attacking passes are high and wide, that's a win for defence!
  • Bonus for forcing errors and interceptions.
  • Progression:
  • Working players can switch areas, but there can only be onle attacker and one defender in each area at a time.

COACHING POINTS

  • Defenders must do your job first before going for that intercept!
  • Body angled to encourage the attacker movement high and wide.
  • Allow front ball to land (no space gained).
  • Cutting off route to the back of court on your side.
  • Player on your back when driving away, eyes on player and ball.
  • Feet under body at all times.
