I have thoroughly enjoyed using your site to help me with my coaching plans for my under 9's netball team.
I have just started coaching 20 9year olds at my daughters school. 18 of them havn't played any netball. I have started teaching them the basic ball handling skills, shooting and we are working on the rules. I have limited time to get them ready for their first game due to alot of our training days falling on public holidays. We had our first mini game at training last week and it was ciaos. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can try and teaching them the rules while having a mock game without a mass of confusion??
9 players - 4 girls off half a game each week or 2 players off per quarter? I coach a 10 yrs team in a very close A grade competition. There are 9 players therefore 2 reserves are needed each quarter. Is it best to have 4 girls off for half a game each week, less disruption to team but best players are then off for half a game - girls are off every second week, or 2 girls off each quarter, more disruption but best players are only off for quarter of a game, girls are off every week. I am required to give all players equal time on the court throughout the season. Thank you.
I am about to start coaching a team of 8 yr olds who have never played. Any tips or books on how to start teaching them the rules and skills of the game ?
I have a u/14 team with no netbal experience. I myself have never played netbal before. How do I start and what is the most important rules and patterns they need to know?
I have found that my players worked well as a group and also really enjoyed a Quiz about Netball (both rules and history of netball in general)but I have run out of questions, I usually only finish our training sessions with one question for each member of our team and use any the following week that they got wrong so they are learning at the same time. If you have any ideas please let me know as I have searched the web and every other resource I can find, Some of the questions I have used are How many seconds can you hold the ball? How far away do you need to be before arms go up to defend? How is a short pass measured? Where does a ball need to be touched first after a centre pass? Name 2 examples of Good spartsmanship? Name the 7 Positions in a Netball Game How many players on a Netball court during a Game? (trick question, usually andswered with 7, keeps them on their toes) In which Country did netball begin? What is the Name of the Australian Netball Team? What time do we turn up for a Game on Saturdays? If you land on 2 feet while catching the ball, which foot can you pivot on? PLease help, I need more questions, we still have a long year ahead %3A) Thanks
Is there a system for rotating 9 girls through each position fairly each week
I have 10 players and need to roster them equally, does anyone have a formula
Hi everyone. I am a first time coach and my team knows nothing! where should I start and what drills would you recommend?
What is the best way to teach the positions to 8 year old first time players?
Hi I have a player who has recently taken up another sport and cannot attend training at all but can attend the weekend game. We are half way through the season. I am not sure whether its fair to give this player as much game time as the other girls and just wanted to know what other coaches might do in this situation. Thanks
I am in my second year of coaching my daughters team made up of 12 and 13 year old girls, though I've never played Netball myself. I have learnt much through this site and have used many drills posted here to help improve their overall play, so first of all, thanks to everyone who has contributed with drills, and the Q&A sections. The team has come on in leaps and bounds, from losing every game but one in the two years previous, to making the finals last year. But the one thing that really stands out in their game play at the moment is the tendency to chase the ball, thereby bunching up and leaving no one free to pass to. Playing positions is something that I've read other coaches talk about, though I don't really understand what it means. Do I need to divide the court up from starting positions and teach the girls to try and stay in their area? If so, how do I divide the court up? Do I stop the girls during half-court practice every time they leave their area?I touched on holding positions last training session and during our last game, and said something along the lines that although they need to be available on court for intercepts and passes, they also need to trust in their team mates to cover their own given area to get the ball, but I don't really know I'm on the right track. I would really appreciate any help in this area. I don't know how to go about this at all.
Hi, My two team of girls are having a great season and will be heading into finals in 6 rounds, as a coach this is first time i have coached finals. My question is about positions and subs, do you play fair all over for the whole game or do you put your best team on court for most of the game, playing those that don't fit into the best line up on for minimum time - like the first quarter?i have one team of 8 (Age group Under 19's) , and one team of 9 Seniors (A2) which i play/coach in? Any tips would be helpful.
I have 9 players in a summer Rep preparation comp. Players have nominated 2 preferred positions. How do I rotate for fair/equal court time across the 5 weeks, games are 6 x 8min quarters? Asked using Sportplan on Mobile
how to fairly rotate 10 players in a netball game
Hi, just wanting to know how to play a half court game. How does it work. Cheers Asked using Sportplan on Mobile
what are the key points of intercepting in netball
My associate coach and I disagree on whether U/10s should play different positions or focus/settle on one, maybe two. I don't want to put the girls in a box at such a young age but I also don't want a Jack of all Trades situation. They are still developing so much that I feel I'll be doing them a disservice by just putting them in the same position every week. The assistant coach says if we move them around we're not going to do as well but that is where the participation vs performance comes in for me. Surely at this age development is more important than winning? No coach likes to lose but I don't want to win at the expense of them experiencing different positions. What do you guys suggest? Thanks in advance! A Asked using Sportplan Mobile App

How to get players to think about position on court and timing
I am having trouble with one of my players who is a very valuable mid court player, yet obseses about wanting to play GS, not only is she the shortest in the team but when she has played GS she struggles to get in front to receive the ball. No matter how much I explain that the mid court is where she needs to be she wont let it up & even has a nasty attitude towards other players. I have very good shooters in the team, how do I explain without upsetting her but in a way that will get through to her that shooting is not for her this season??
