Back Foot Shot Video Technique...

Run to the ball and shoot on the turn.  Also known as utilising the 'backspace' A useful skill for strikers working on getting away from a defender, especially from free hits outside the circle.

Player on the ball waits for the player in the D to make a move with their stick outside the D for them to pass the ball hard onto the stick. Player receiving the ball adds to the pass and shoots reverse or pulls the ball inside to shoot forehand or get a shortcorner.

White player 1 and 2 have decided between them who will take the self pass (without the defender knowing) On the whistle both white players run to take the self pass but only one comes back with the ball. The defender can try and stop them scoring. Player taking the self pass can shoot or pass to other player. Next pair decide between them and get ready.

The player with ball has a free hit. They should play a self pass before then trying to get the ball to either player. The defender has to keep their distance from the free hitter and try to move so that they can intercept the pass. Players on the free hit should disguise the direction of their pass.

Players can use this technique when passing or shooting at goal. Hold the stick with your palms facing upwards and turn the stick so that the flat side of the hook is facing the sky. The back swing should be short and remain close to the ground. Place your weight onto your right foot, with the ball slightly in front. For a pass/ sweep shot ensure you get low and hit the middle of the ball. For a controlled lifted shot players should hit into the back of the ball.

The sweep is a variation from the hit pass. The grip and stance are the same the ball is placed in line with the front foot. The stick is drawn back a short way and swept forwards along the ground to strike the ball.

Objective: To be able to hit the ball off the right foot accurately and flat. Purpose: Hitting off the right foot allows for the ball to be hit earlier, can open up different passing channels and is useful when running at pace. Structure: Pairs

Grip: Hands apart but similar 'double V grip' to the hitting technique. Head: The head should be positioned over the right foot as the player starts to push the ball. The head will finish well over the left foot once the follow through has been completed. Ball: Almost a full stick length away from the body. The ball should start in front of the right foot and will be released when it has passed the left foot. Keep the stick in contact with the ball for as long as possible. A good follow through technique will see the head of the stick pointing at the intended target. On the move: Players should use the 'cross-over' step where the penultimate step is the right foot crossing behind the left foot. This motion allows the player to stay in a low position throughout the push. Keeping both feet on the ground when in contact with the ball will help the player stay balanced throughout the pushing technique, and will help the transfer of weight from right foot to left.

Player on the free hit hits the ball hard slightly wide of the D for a player to move out with their stick to deflect the ball into the D for a shot or onto the foot of the covering defender.

- Performing the aerial pass in pairs<br />- Stand around half a stick length away from the ball<br />- Step into the movement with left foot in line with the ball<br />- Keep head still and over the ball<br />- The head of the stick should come underneath the ball, using a pushing motion at a 45 degree angle<br />- Hand position should be similar to an upright push pass

Objective: To introduce a more advance style of hitting, often called the tomahawk, to get the player to hit the ball accurately and firmly, developing a sound technique.  Purpose: Being able to accurately hit a back hand shot or pass creates numerous different opportunities to get a shot away or to deliver a pass. Objective: To establish the grip when hitting and role of the wrists and arms to be able to be able to generate power without reducing accuracy. Purpose: Hitting the ball is an important skill when either transferring the ball, delivering longer passes into the circle or shooting. Being able to hit a flat, accurate and powerful pass can split defences, switch the play quickly, offering huge benefits to the team. Structure: Pairs.

Hi allI'm running a session on friday night (21 April 2017) and was hoping to move beyond stuff like deflection goals only, to compensate for not having any goalkeepers.Session theme is unfortunately on goalscoring too.Any tips/suggestions?I have some rebound nets (crazy catch), which might actually work brilliantly to simulate saves but any other ideas would be welcomed.Regards,Gary
