High and Wide (on court)

DESCRIPTION

• Working in half of the third with a feeder either side, an attacking players and defending player in the middle space.
• The attacking player is looking to recieve and send at least 5 successful passes for one feeder to the other. They can reset to the original feeder, but that does not count.
• The defending player is looking to delay, force an error or intercept.
• Swap working players.
• If making positional relevant, try on the other side of the court

Make it positional relevant:

• Feeder could be in the circle as a GS/WA or on circle edge in the pocket ready to feed as a C/WA.
• The feeder could start from the backline as a GK/GD combination.
• The feeder could be on sideline to practise various combinations.

Variation:

• Persistence in Defence: If the defending player gains possession (through intercept or attacking error) then the defender earns a rest and swaps out with one of the feeders. Otherwise the defender has to stay in and the attacking player swaps out!

COACHING POINTS

• This drill will demand perserservance for the defender; they will need to make clever decisions about what balls to run on and which to let land.
• Feet under body, body upright
• Angled to encourage movement of attacking player high, which makes the onwards pass more challenging.
• Timing to "release" attacking player to get distance and arms over.
• Delaying onwards movement once pass released.
• Being dogged in defence!
