I am currently coaching a senior college team and I have found Sportplan...
Kiri, Coach

DESCRIPTION

  • In groups of 5, 2 attackers, a feeder and a defending player.
  • Feeder sends the pass to either attacking player. Start with that attacking player remaining static.
  • The defending player comes out from behind for the intercept.
  • Whoever recieved that first pass (the attacking player if the defending player has missed, or the defending player with a successful intercept) send the pass back to the feeder.
  • The attacking player will then make a srong movement/drive towards the top of the circle.
  • The feeder sends a lift ball in that direction.
  • The defending player looks to intercept.

Progression:

increase the intensity of the attacking player movement.

COACHING POINTS

  • Defending player has to be dogged in their efforts in this drill.
  • Always taking feet with them, under the body, ready to adjust and recover and go again.
  • Run all the way to the ball, no leaping, lunging or flying through the air.
  • Use of arms for momentum to run then the reach to pull that ball in early.
