Hitting the benches - Match Play

Divide the pitch into three areas. Both teams play a 3 v 3 inside the middle third of the pitch. The blue team are trying to hit the white team's benches and vice versa. Teams must pass around to get a free chance before trying to score.

Meet the Pass and Shoot - With two man pressure

Player 1 is acting as the feeder as all other players line up to their left and right. Player one carries the ball towards the defender in order to create space for the players to their left and right. Once they have engaged the defender they should offload the ball to their left, in front of player 2. Player 2 so must move forwards to meet the pass. Once they have the ball under control they should switch the ball cross-court to player 3, making sure their pass is out of the defender's reach. Player 3 runs onto this pass and must then engage the second defender before offloading a quick pass to player 4 who then runs on to shoot on goal.

Power play - Overload Game

Play a normal full pitch game with the following condition: One attacker on both teams must stay in the offensive half of the pitch at all times. This will result in a one man overload when teams are attacking and will promote fast breaks.

Set up two groups on each side of the court. Players in group 1 start with the ball on the corner. Player 1 passes the ball out to player 2 who shoots on goal. After the shot both players run to the benches where they perform a series of quick jumps before joining the back of the opposite line on the other side of the court. Drill continues from other side of court.

Five players from the attacking team position themselves around the goal area line so that they stretch the defenders. Each of them should be man-marked from a distance by the five white players. Starting with the ball on the left side of the court players pass to their right, trying to draw the defender to be drawn out of position before passing the ball on again. Blue players 6 should set up a back screen in front of the fourth defender. Once the ball reaches player 4 they should dribble forwards and wait and see if defender 4 comes towards them - if the defender stands still, marking blue 6, then blue 4 should shoot on goal. If the defender moves forwards then they should pass to player 6 for them to shoot instead.

Players work in groups of four and try to make the three passes as quickly as possible as they cross-over. The starting player runs forward with the ball and passes the ball behind to the next player as their paths cross. As they do so the player three should time their run so that they cross over with player two just as they receive the ball in time to in turn receive the ball. Player four also does the same so that they quickly receive the final cross-over pass from player three.

Blue players 1, 2 and 4 pass the ball in the following order: Blue1- Blue2- Blue4- Blue2 Just before blue2 receives the pass from blue4 the two players closest to the 6m line (blue3 and blue6) should set screens on their defenders (white2 and white3). These screens will prevent the two defenders from moving to block the shot from blue2.

Based on the defender's movement player 4 should decide whether to pass to player 6, player 5 or not pass at all and take the shot on themselves. Blue player 1 starts with the ball and moves to make their defender follow them out of position, once they've dragged them outside they pass to player 2 who does the same and then passes to player 3 who passes to player 4. At this stage the game becomes 'live'. Blue 6 is stood between the two defenders and blue 5 is ready to make a run down the outside. Depending on the decisions made by the defence player 4 can pass early to player 6, throw the ball into the path of player 5 or simply go it alone and take the shot on themselves.

Simple fast break drill with two lines of players (one on each side) and a feeder/coach standing in the middle. The player at the front of the line passes the ball to the feeder in the middle and then sprints towards the goal. The feeder returns the ball, passing the ball in front of the runner, for them to run onto and shoot with a quick center shot! The attackers should go all the way to the goal line. Low shots are more effective!!

Player 1 acts as the feeder in this drill. Taking it in turns one attacking player from each side receives the pass and then runs on to try and get past the defender stood near the 7 meter line. If they get past the attacker should try and score a goal. Once they have had a shot players rotate - so the attacker becomes the defender and the defender joins the back of the attacking line.
