Hi, I have a player who is coming back to netball after not having played since she was 12 years old (now 18). I want her to develop her throwing arm as her shoulder pass is quite weak. Apart from throwing the ball back and forth at home, are there any specific exercises I can get her to do?
Hi,
Yes, to strengthen her shoulder pass she should try to strengthen her shoulder and arm muscles so she can put more power behind the ball. Firstly, I would advise getting her to practice throwing the ball against the wall, trying to hit the same brick each time - this will also help her accuracy. She should start at a distance she is comfortable at and is able to deliver a strong pass. When the arm gets tired ensure she continues and pushes through as this is when she will be truly strengthing her pass and helps help work under fatigue. As she gets strong she can take a step back and begin to practice from further distances.
There are also a number of drills in our 'DIY' section that she can complete with minimal assistance or equipment. Here are a few I think may be particularly useful:
- Full Plank Variation
- Partner Side Plank
- Wall Bounce
Hope this helps.
Hi Eleanor, thanks so much for taking the time to reply and for your advice. I`ll be sure to share this with her.
Best regards,
Isabella.
