Netball: Mark your man - Cut out the pass

Red 2 has the ball and red 1 starts in the opposite corner Blue 1 runs forward and Red 2 passes a diagonal pass to Blue 1 Red 1 moves on a diagonal to intercept the pass Following the interception red 1 feeds a straight pass onto Blue 2 Red 2 then runs straight to receive a diagonal pass from Blue 2 and Blue 1 moves across to intercept this pass.  

Maximum of 8 players form the outside of a circle with 2 defenders inside and 1 ball. Defenders have to work together to intercept the ball and should communicate to each other by calling who is marking the ball and who is marking the space in order to work more effectively.

Working in 2 teams players must make passes across the square. When the ball reaches the other side it counts as a point. The teams work in opposite directions, one team horizontally (blue), one team vertically (green). Players on the outside edge can move up and down the length of their line, but can not move off it. Players in the centre of the square can move anywhere within the square but must make sure they are aware of the players around them. The focus of the practice is on the defenders. The 2 defenders (red) work inside the square and can only intercept passes from their allocated team.

Get into 4's with 1 ball  3 players will create a triangle shape and will each be a feeder  One feeder will start with the ball (in the example, the player at the top of the triangle)  The worker will receive 3 balls from each post: 1) The feeder will simple drop the ball, the worker will need to drive forward to collect the ball and pass it back to the feeder  2) The second ball will be over the workers head - so the worker will drive back on an angle towards one of the spare feeders and intercept the pass. The ball will then be passed back back to the feeder  3) For the final ball the spare feeder (who the worker did not drive towards) will enter the triangle. The worker will need to cut across and intercept the pass  Once the worker has recieved all 3 balls from that post they will move onto the next post and do the same 3 balls  Once all 3 posts have been used (so the worker has recieved 9 balls) they can switch out

The defender (green 1) attempts to intercept the ball as it is passed between 3 static players. It's important that the three attacking players are not standing too far away from each other. Focus on the defender.

The player without the ball (the worker) drives forwards, taking approximately 5 steps before then rapidly running backwards towards one of the cones. As they reach the cone the other player should feed a high pass for them to jump up and catch as they are moving backwards. Repeat 5 times and then swap player's roles.

Player 1 has the ball. The middle player takes two steps forward to receive a high ball from player 1. He feeds the ball back to player 1 and then moves to the line as player 1 passes to player 2. The middle player moves back to intercept a pass from player 2 to player 1.

2 balls. The middle player faces player 1 and jumps to receive a high pass. The middle player then turns and receives another high pass from player 2.

in 3s 1 ball Feeder drops the ball on the floor for the 2 other players to compete and try and gain possession of the ball.

The 2 Blue players pass the ball to each other while the green player marks the white player. The green player has to attempt to intercept the pass beween one the two blue players.

Blue 1 and 2 passing to each other. No. 3 is dodging from side to side. White 1 defends. Feed can come in at any time to no. 3 and defence attempts intercept.

Facing each other one player: Drives forward 5 steps, Back 5 steps and jump to catch the ball Drives out to the side at 45 degree angle receiving the ball in the air (left and right) 5 times each side – swap worker.

Set up GS and GK in the shooting circle.  Two midcourt players start with the ball in the centre third towards the transverse line. One player in the centre of the court (C), one on the side (WA).  Ball starts with the player in the center and is passed square to the other midcourt player who passes straight back. The WA player on the side then drives as if heading to the pocket, in the same channel. C player passes a long ball to the pocket for the WA.  GK comes out of the circle hunting for that long ball to the WA ensuring the timing is right. If GK is successful, they then pass back to the C and drive up the court.   

In pairs- 1 ball.  Stand behind each other jogging together up court.  Ball with backplayer.  She pops ball over head of front player who meets ball in air.  Back player then sprints in front of player who then pops ball over her head.  Continuous practice.

Set up: 1 ball, half court space, 4 players. Players set up as if hte ball is to be taken from the midcourt into the shooting circle.  Aim is for GK/GD to time an intercept that will be delivered into the pocket. 

Players work in pairs, with one ball between them. Facing each other the player without the ball drives forward, taking 5 steps forwards and then 5 steps back before then receiving a high pass from their partner. Repeat 10 times before swapping roles.

Feeder (Blue 1) throws the ball against the wall. Blue 2 faces the wall and reacts to catch the rebounding ball. Progression : The worker must face the feeder and turn as the ball is released.

This exercise shows you how to collect a heigh pass ( or interception)

Two players chest pass the ball to each other. Defender (Green1) starts at the side of the receiver and attempts to intercept the pass in front of blue 2. As she becomes successful, the defender moves round the receiver until , eventually she is starting from directly behind her. She must not move until the ball is released.
