Working in pairs in a small space with a ball and a cone/marker. Attacking player âmovesâ to cone; when they reach the cone, the feeder will send the ball straight ahead for the working player to drive (sprint) onto. The "moves" vary as follows: Walking Skipping Sidestep Jogging Progression: feeder can choose to through the short ball ahead of themselves or give a lofted pass towards where the attacking player started.
To encourage a change of pace, we start by demonstrating clear changes of pace, and showing what players can achieve with a strong drive The space should be small enough for success to be achieved with a committed drive onto the ball, but large enough for them to have to sprint onto the pass. Feet under body, turning head and hips when driving onwards, and use of arms to help with momentum change. With progression, ensuring the hips change and they run onto the back ball rather than back peddling or side-stepping, which will never to as fast!
