what's the best way to stop a defender from not using the 3 ft rule?
Hello Brianna,
First things first check that your defender knows how far three feet is. If not show them by either marking it out or using a piece of string or a stick. Once they have this point of reference it should help them to visualise the distance when defending.

The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
