How do I rotate my team of 10 netballers fairly?
Hi Sue,
I think rotating players must be the most popular question on the whole of Sportplan! To help you out we've collected a few of the best answers on this topic:
Hope they help!
The Sportplan Team
depends on whether you have a good balance of skill among your players, and if you wish to be competitive or fair. i ask for i had 10 players a few years ago, and i started off just being fair. i constantly rotated the girls around the court to allow everyone to have equal time off (2 people always had to have half a game off). we lost a lot of games because there was no consistency and the team was unable to gel as there were no consistent combinations. when i split the team into 3 areas Attack, Centers, and Defence, and delegated 3 girls to each of the Attack and Defence areas, and 4 to the Centers and rotated everyone in those areas every quarter, it allowed a much better consistency on court. no it isn't the fairest way, and it depends if you actually have enough players to be able to do that with, but it allowed the team to gel better, and learn a particular area. we started winning after that, and the girls could see the benefits of the system, and had to accept that although it isn't a fair system, it was what was best for the team.
It depends on your team, and what you wish to achieve.
Hope that helps.
in more ways than one
Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
