Goalies are practicing but game day percentage are lower due to increase in pressure. Also need to penetrate ring deeper for higher percentage shots. Need feeders working harder to help goalies get better position Any drills would be helpful ðð

Hi Trish,
Firstly, your shooters need to be preferably putting up 100 shots per day and if possible get someone to 3ft mark them. In training when they are practising get your defenders to stand closer than 3ft, this will put extra pressure on your shooters. Alternatively, get two players to stand either side of the shooter and get a feeder to feed the ball in. When the shooter goes up for the ball, the other 2 defenders should contest and gently but purposefully contact the shooter. This will make your shooter stronger and really pull in ball, whilst imitating a real game.
If you have a tall shooter you might want them to hold in the circle and get your feeders to feed the ball into their space. See how to do this here. It is important your shooter holds enough back space so they are not too close to the sideline and it is important your feeder places the ball into space, so the ball couldn't be contested by the defender.
This drill can help your players practice feeding over defenders into space popping over.
In terms of penetrating the circle, your shooters need to do more work. They need to draw their defender out of the circle and cut back in to open up and create space. This drill will help, add a defender in once your players movement improves.
Hope this helps.

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
