6 cones are to be set up, There is to be a worker and a passer. The worker will do fast feet in the middle of the centre cones The passer will call out a number, the front cones are 1 the middle 2 and the back cones 3. If the passer calls 1 the Worker must run up onto either one of the front cones and chase a bounce pass. If the Passer calls 2 the worker must sprint to either side of the middle cones and recieve a shoulder pass. If the Passer calls 3 the Worker must sprint to the back cones to recieve a lob without turning there back to the ball and intercept the lob. (see diagram 1) Repeat through 3x each DEFENSIVE BLOCKING. The Attacker and the Defender are to run out The Attacker will recieve the pass from the C. The C will then run to the transverse line to recieve the next pass. once the C recieves the pass the WA must work to get to the edge of the circle the WD must stop the WA from hitting the edge of the circle by stepping up and using defensive blocking. Repeat x5 everyone has a go and defending and attacking. SPLIT-CIRCLE DEFENCE. There will two defenders in the circle with 1 worker (the aim of the drill is to communicate with each other in the circle) each defender is to protect either side or front or back. The worker must move throughtout the circle with the defence protecting each side talking to each other call front or back The aim of the drill is to make sure each defender doesnt get into each others space when defending there player it is also designed to help call switch whenever is needed. Every player to go through 2x

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
